The 2024 NASCAR Cup series finale marked history in making as Joey Logano became a three times Cup champion and marked himself in the list of the sports’ elites. But his title win isn’t getting the credit it deserves as his less than flashy stats on the way to tiles has made a significant group of fans overlooking it, with criticizing the playoff format.
But the Team Penske Racing’s champion doesn’t thing there is an issue with the playoffs. He pointed out that his opinion is only voiced by a minority in the sports. Joey Logano then hilariously admitted that he had no choice considering he won the 2024 Cup championship despite having a poor regular season.
The Ford veteran explained that the criticism towards playoffs is because the fans see it in the perspective of other sports when they shouldn’t. He then explained his argument highlighting the NFL format where losing one game in the playoff is enough to end championship chase.
Joey Logano believes the playoffs makes the season exciting
While further talking about the point, Joey Logano explained how significant the regular season performance is. He pointed out that the 15 points advantage gives the driver opportunity to make multiple mistakes and come out unharmed, while the other can’t afford to do the same. This makes the season more interesting and gives more story lines.
The Cup champion has made some solid point regarding keeping the playoff in the sport. The question through is should the format be tweaked to give regular season performance more weight. The answer is yes, as the system needs some necessary tweaks.
