Team Penske Racing’s reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano is the one of the most disrespected racers in the garage. Fans of the star drivers hate him for his mean racing style, while some overlook his three-championship triumph by blaming the playoff format. The veteran racer is really confused by this dynamic with the stock car racing fandom.
Ahead of his home race, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Joey Logano talked about his relationship with the NASCAR fans and his hopes for the weekend. He has one goal, something that has always been the driving force behind his success, winning races and when he has fans behind him in tracks like Loudon it gives him extra motivation.
I like winning. That part hasn’t changed over the years. It’s hard. It’s honestly become harder over the years, just because the field is so close and I think part of the emotion is that we’re in New Hampshire. … The fans cheer me.
Joey Logano said via motorsport.com.
The veteran really cherishes every moment he gets to race in a track where the majority is cheering for him and not booing him as usual. This happens for him only in a handful of tracks and he admitted that he will have the opportunity to secure one of the most exciting wins of his career, as the whole grandstands will be happy for him.
It’s freaking cool. That doesn’t happen everywhere. Like, only here, so I love that. It’s a little bit more exciting when you’re able to win the pole when the whole grandstand is happy for you. That’s kind of neat.
Joey Logano added.
Furthermore, the veteran racer admitted that he actually wants make his fans or haters to make noise, as without it the race week feels incomplete for them. The Penske driver also pointed out that the hate he is getting might be the product of the fans misunderstanding him. This might be due to the fact that he is seen as two faced, owing to him being a nice person off the track and a mean racer on it.
I dread the day they don’t say anything. That’s the worst part… I don’t understand it because I don’t know why. I wish I understood why a little bit more. I feel like I’m misunderstood a lot of times. I think the industry knows me really well and the kind of person I am.
Joey Logano asserted.
Joey Logano is gunning for a win on Sunday
The weekend so far has been solid for the No:22 team, as they will start the race in pole after producing a solid run in Qualifying. The good results he and his crew chief Paul Wolfie have had over the years at the venue played an important role in it.

He pointed out that he got one of the fastest cars he has ever had at the venue this week and is determined capitalize on the pace advantage he has. Logano is hoping for a smooth race and a dominant win on Sunday.
At Loudon, we expect to be fast. Paul has always had fast cars here. Compared to the last few years, our cars have been really fast. We haven’t capitalized on it, but we’ve had speed good enough to win the last few races here. Hoping to have just a nice smooth race tomorrow and maintain track position.

Team Penske needs their drivers back on the victory lane to continue their dominance in the Next-Gen era, and for that they first need to break the Joe Gibbs Racing winning streak as the TRD team swept the R-16. It would be interesting to see how Joey Logano and his teammates going perform on Sunday.
