While the majority in the NASCAR Community is lining up against the current playoff format and calling for crapping it all together, reigning champion Joey Logano is defending it. After the charlotte Roval race, where he barely made it into the R-8, the Ford driver shared his thoughts on the positives of the format.

On his interview after the Roval race, that saw playoffs being the biggest storyline instead of the Shane van Gisbergen’s dominant win, Joey Logano highlighted how the format creates more storylines and drama, that the original format ever could. He asserted that he is finding it hard to understand why there is a need for a change.

The playoffs create drama. It creates storylines. It creates awesome moments like that. I don’t understand what people don’t like about it. I really don’t get it.

Joey Logano said via motorsport.com.

He pointed out that one point difference dictated the results this weekend and used it to defend the format against the critics. Many accuses his of being biased owing to the fact that he is one of the most dominant drivers of the era. The veteran seems to believes people don’t realize how entertaining the current format is.

And if you’re one of those people who say the regular season doesn’t matter, playoff points don’t matter — one point would have been the difference there. I preach that all the time.  I’m not just saying that because it works for us. I’m saying it because it’s true. Everyone likes to look at it in other ways, but like I said, one point was the different there.

Joey Logano asserted.

Furthermore, he asserted that the cutoff races make things special, keeping every driver on their toes. He pointed out that the wickedness the playoff format produces clearly gives better storylines that having full-season format races or covering SVG’s 15+ seconds win.

If you don’t have cutoff races and things like that, what are you even talking about today? How Shane waxed everyone’s butt? That’s what you want? I’m just saying, this playoff format is wicked.

Joey Logano is proud of his team and crew chief after R-8 promotion

The Team Penske Racing’s veteran’s promotion wasn’t just luck, as the three stop strategy from of Paul Wolfe gave them the opportunity to be at the place at the end to overtake Ross Chastain, after the Trackhouse driver spinout after contact with Denny Hamlin. So, the Ford veteran is proud of his crew for their execution in the dramatic playoffs.

If you want drama, the playoffs bring it every time. What an entertaining finish there, and to come down to you know, like you said, a tie there basically at the end before the wreck. So, proud of Paul Wolfe. [He] made some really hard calls today. Three-stopping the end there, kind of an audible there at the end, as our fall off was a little bit too much.

With the promotion, Logano has found themselves close to winning the championship again. He has historically been strong in the three tracks in R-8, Vegas, Talladega and Martinsville. If he can get into the championship-4, he will be the favorite to win the championship, as his team is almost unbeatable in the finale venue, Phoenix.
