Despite being a three times Cup Series champion, with 37 wins from his 15+ year Cup career, Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano is one of the most disrespected racers in the sports’ history. He is often overlooked when it comes to legacy conversation and has one of the biggest group of haters in the history of the sport.

Ahead of the New Hampshire R-12 race, his home track and the only venue that he consistently gets more cheers than boos, Joey Logano shared his thoughts on why some fans hates him. He admitted that the only rational reason he can think of is the fact that despite being one of the nicest people in the garage on the track, he is one of the most aggressive.

I don’t know if all the fans understand the kind of person I am or don’t understand how you can race one way and be happy all the other times. It doesn’t add up.  I guess that’s the only reason I can try to understand it. I don’t understand it completely but there is a lot of 22 fans out there.

The veteran racer then went onto explain the issue with his fandom and haters. He pointed out that as a society, haters get more attention as they are the most vocal when it comes to race weekend as well as the social media. But this often overshadow the fact that the No:22 fandom is pretty solid, as he highlighted his impressive merchandize sale.

As a society, we focus too much on the haters. We just do that in general and a lot of times it’s just louder than cheers, but when you look at whatever it is – sales in the merch haulers or if you just look in the grandstands, there’s a lot of yellow stuff out there.

Joey Logano asserted.

Furthermore, he pointed out that often in all tracks his fans can be spotted wearing the iconic Shell/Pennzoil yellow T-shirts and he really cherish the support of these passionate NASCAR fans. The support from his home fans from Loudon is more special as he is proudly representing them in the world of motorsports.

There’s a lot of Shell/Pennzoil stuff out there. Although we do talk about the haters too much, there’s a lot of 22 fans out there and I’m happy to have every one of them. Like I said, though, it is neat when I do come to Loudon because I am representing, I feel like, everyone who lives around here. I feel like you’ve got to root for the hometown guy.

Joey Logano added.

Joey Logano felt like Dale Earnhardt Jr. at New Hampshire

In the same conversation, Logano made a Dale Earnhardt Jr. comment to explain how big his supporters at his home track are. The Hall of Famer is the most loved racer in the sports history, attracting cheers from almost all the venues he has ever raced in.

Joey Logano pointed out that he really enjoys the cheers from his home crowd and admitted that it is the only time in his season he gets experiment a fan support close to what Junior had his whole racing career. Any driver would love to have that opportunity.

You’ve got to do cheer for the hometown guy and it’s fun to enjoy that piece of it. It’s the only time I ever feel a little bit like Dale Jr. – just a little bit. It’s super cool. It’s really neat to be Dale Jr. I’ve learned.

The comments from Logano shows he will be more focussed and determined than ever to secure his first playoff race of the season for his team.  It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star racer on Sunday and in the coming races of the season.
