The NASCAR grid was at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday for the penultimate race of the 2024 regular season. As expected from a Superspeedway, the track featured multiple wrecks, including two big ones which could have been avoided. Two times Cup champion Joey Logano is getting frustrated with wrecks happening every other week.
After being taken out in the big one caused by race leader Michael McDowell getting wrecked, Joey Logano pointed out that it’s time for change. He admitted that most often in Superspeedway’s the drivers are anticipating a wreck and is always on the lookout to make sure they are on the right spot to survive it, which isn’t a good look.

It’s speedway racing. It’s a lot of fun until it’s not. We did a good job keeping our car in position all night, up in the top five the whole race. We got a stage win, which is great. McDowell just got turned and came down in front me with nowhere to go. I think he’s OK as well.Joey Logano told NBC Sports.
He pointed out that NASCAR and the teams have to figure out a way to keep the cars on the ground instead of having to see wrecks left and right. Joey Logano pointed out that the sport isn’t doing a good job to make this happen and shared his hope that one day they could find a suitable solution for it.
Some pretty big hits there, and then horrible to see Josh Berry there a second ago upside-down into the wall. We’ve got to figure out how to keep the cars on the ground. We’re not doing enough to fix that.Joey Logano added.
Michael McDowell is bummed after getting knocked out in the incident involving Joey Lognao
FRM veteran Michael McDowell came into the Daytona weekend with the hopes of securing the layoff berth with a win, and he had a perfect start with the pole win. But unfortunately, he got wrecked on the final stage and is bummed for his team as it cost him everything the team has been working for.
I’m fine. I don’t know what it looked like. I closed my eyes. Anytime you get turned in front of the field while leading it, you know somebody is gonna hit you. There’s no way you’re getting out of it. I’m just bummed. We had a really fast Long John Silver Ford Mustang. I’m really proud of everybody at Front Row.Michael McDowell said.
The 2024 season hints been the very best for the veteran who is set to join Spire Motorsports in the 2025 season. He was hoping to salvage something from the last few races of the regular season. Now would have to look into winning a playoff race as compensation for the team.
