Despite being one of the most physically demanding sporting events, motorsports driver often doesn’t get acknowledged as athletes. When it comes to the premier stock car racing, NASCAR, things are the same and sometimes bad, as the sporting world most often refuses to identify them as athletes.

Team Penske Racing’s three times Cup Series champion Joey Logano shared his feelings about these conversations. He asserted that it’s unfair to not to call NASCAR a sport and used to an NBA argument to prove his points. Logano highlighted how if NBA players came into racing they will struggle and vice-versa.

So, are you going to tell me now an NBA player is not an athlete because he can’t drive a race car? Probably not. So then why would you call me not an athlete? Why would you even be in the conversation? I just don’t, I don’t get that.

Joey Logano said (via Speedway digest).

The reason behind the lack of acknowledgment the NASCAR racers get, is the fact that other than the wrecks it is hard to explain or show the physical demands of racing. The NASCAR drivers often doesn’t have the super fit physical appearance that many align with sportspersons and that makes a difference as well.

Joey Logano gives his verdict on how to solve teammate issues

He pointed out that, in such situations, a conversation with a teammate is like talking with one’s spouse. Logano admitted that is s*cks to be in such a situation.

It is just like any other conversation you have with your spouse. What is the intention? Is your intention to direct your teammate? Absolutely not. Does it go against the rules we come up with as a team on how we win at Speedways? No, it did not. Does it suck? Absolutely.

Joey Logano said.

The comments from the No:22 Ford driver shows the different dynamic there is in a team among the drivers. It is important for drivers to have a close relationship with their teammate in order to succeed in the top division.
