John Cena‘s last-ever SummerSlam match saw him lose the WWE title to Cody Rhodes in an epic street fight. Once they embraced after the match and ‘The Cenation Leader’ was about to exit the ring, Brock Lesnar‘s arrival sent the entire MetLife Stadium into a frenzy. It was The Beast’s first WWE appearance since August 2023, and he went on to F-5 Cena.

A few days removed from that absolute shocker of a return from Lesnar, the Peacemaker star was asked about it. The latter stopped by Adam Glyn of Adam’s Apple for a quick chat, where Cena said he’ll continue doing what he has done for the past 25 years—act in accordance with what is asked of him. In regard to Lesnar coming back, Cena emphasized that WWE is bolstering its product for the fans.

…………They got to continue their programming going forward. So they’re just trying to make the most exciting shows for the fans. A dozen of them I got left. They deal ‘em, I play ‘em.

‘The Franchise Player’ said that he has about a dozen dates left in his ongoing retirement tour. Cena, not once, mentioned Lesnar by his name, but they’re seemingly on a collision course. The Ricky Stanicky actor is advertised for this week’s SmackDown in Montreal, while The Beast’s status for the show is unknown.

The speculation is mounting in social media circles that Cena and Lesnar might duke it out at Clash in Paris later this month. WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque noted during the SummerSlam post-show that working with ‘The Beast Incarnate’ was on Cena’s wish list before calling it quits. The fans could definitely expect some fireworks to go off when these icons finally stand across from each other in a formal match.

Why Brock Lesnar’s WWE return has generated this amount of buzz?

A number of groundbreaking returns have happened in WWE in the past few years, as in the case of CM Punk probably topping the list. However, with Brock Lesnar coming back on Sunday, he might’ve just trumped all. Why is that so? It’s because the former UFC Heavyweight Champion is still named in Janel Grant‘s lawsuit against WWE founder Vince McMahon on grounds of se*ual trafficking and physical abuse.

The complaint has alleged that McMahon used Ms. Grant as a se*ual pawn to negotiate a WWE contract with Lesnar in 2021-22. Moreover, it noted that the plaintiff was set up for se*ual encounters with ‘The Conqueror’, though that part never came to fruition.

A spokesperson for Grant has issued a statement following Lesnar’s return to WWE, saying this attempt to sweep the misconduct under the rug will backfire. As per Fightful, ‘The Beast’ was cleared by WWE’s legal team a few weeks ago.

However, that doesn’t, by any means, entail that the 48-year-old was acquitted of any wrongdoings he was accused of in the lawsuit brought forth by Grant. Furthermore, those on the latter’s legal team are hopeful of more findings against Lesnar if probed further.

What was Brock Lesnar’s last match in WWE?

It was back at SummerSlam in 2023 when Brock Lesnar had his previous match in WWE. Cody Rhodes slayed ‘The Beast’ in what was the culmination of their months-long feud. Lesnar shockingly offered a handshake to Rhodes afterwards, which even took Triple H by storm.

He described it as a “holy sh*t” moment for him. Following that, the former client of Paul Heyman was set to be a participant in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match. However, days before the show, Janel Grant’s lawsuit came into existence, and Lesnar was identified in it. That led to WWE deciding against letting him return that weekend at the Royal Rumble.

As some more time passed, the company started to shun the 10-time world champ from its programming and heavily limited his accessibility in the 2k24 video game. Many fans had started to believe that Lesnar was done for from WWE and wouldn’t ever be called back.
