John Cena has probably had the most number of merchandise dispenses in WWE history. Even in his ongoing retirement tour, where he’s a heel and promised that the fans would get nothing in return, he’s pulling up to every city in different colors. The reigning Undisputed WWE Champion recently attended the Philadelphia Fan Expo and talked in detail about his personal favorite merch he’s ever worn.

The 48-year-old labeled the one that he wore at SummerSlam 2021 as his all-time favorite. The T-shirt had a Super Mario parody emblazoned over it with an all-black background scheme. Cena disclosed that WWE had initially planned to sell around 500 of those.

However, since they weren’t sold as regular tees but rather in conjunction with a championship belt, an NFT, an autograph, and a commemorative book, the grand total ballooned to an exorbitant amount. WWE later pitched Cena to sell the tees individually, but The Franchise Player denied. He said he wanted those who’ve paid loads of money to buy them to have them exclusively.

It’s the one time I put my foot down and said, ‘No, there are people out there that spent a lot of their resources and I want them to be able to have something collectible.

Consequently, the company could only sell 15 of those John Cena tees. The Peacemaker actor claimed that the said T-shirt is the only one he’s ever saved. It has a serial number of 000, and Cena believes it’s the ‘dopest’. The night he wore it ended in a catastrophe for him. At first, he lost to Roman Reigns. The Cenation Leader was also attacked by a returning Brock Lesnar after SummerSlam went off air.

How does John Cena want his legacy to look like?

When it’s all said and done, John Cena is certainly going down as one of the greatest WWE Superstars ever, let alone an inspiration for millions of people. While at the Philadelphia Fan Expo, the Last Real Champion was asked about how he envisions his wrestling legacy to look once he bows out. Cena emphasized not putting too much weight on it.

The Franchise Player asserted that he doesn’t work every day to be remembered as a certain somebody. Cena stressed giving his best in what he does, and if one continues doing so for long, it’d automatically feel fulfilling. The wrestler-turned-actor said he’d also be fine with not being recognized by all a few years from now. The Babe Ruth of WWE is almost halfway into his farewell tour.

After escaping the menace of Randy Orton at Backlash, Cena is lined up for a non-title match against R-Truth at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The upcoming matchup might not be a matter of utmost concern for Cena, as he’s not defending the world title from the 53-year-old veteran.

Next up would be the Money in the Bank PLE, where, like SNME, the Massachusetts-born star isn’t expected to put his title belt up for grabs. Instead, he’s reportedly planned for a tag team match with Travis Scott potentially partnering him.

John Cena to compete at WWE Clash in Paris this year

As of now, John Cena is left with 24 more dates to work for WWE. Among other appearances added to his upcoming schedule, he’s also booked to work the France-hosted Clash in Paris PLE on August 31. He’s slated for SmackDown on August 8 in Montreal, August 22 in Dublin, and August 29 in Lyon, followed by the aforementioned premium live event.

A highly probable matchup for Cena at Clash in Paris could be against AJ Styles. WWE may consider pitting The Phenomenal One against The Franchise Player in France, given the fact that these Frenchmen went bonkers for Styles the last time he performed in their country. Moreover, The Georgia Pitbull is definitely interested in squaring off against the Ricky Stanicky actor before the latter rides off into the sunset.

Cena and Styles have had a number of classics in the past. They’ve collided on three different occasions in when it comes to one-on-one matches in WWE. Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect, though trailing by 1-2, won their previous encounter at Royal Rumble 2017 that made him a 16-time World Champion.
