John Cena Tears into The Rock and Travis Scott After Seemingly Reverting Back to a Babyface on SmackDown
John Cena implicitly blasted The Rock and Travis Scott for abandoning him after their industry-changing angle at the Elimination Chamber.

In February at the Elimination Chamber, John Cena forged a shocking alliance with The Rock and Travis Scott to turn into an on-screen villain for the first time since 2003. But on this week’s SmackDown, the Peacemaker actor shockingly admitted that they left him high and dry. First things first, Cody Rhodes interrupted his nemesis just when the latter was about to open his promo.
Instead of lashing out at Rhodes for assaulting him to agree to a street fight at SummerSlam, Cena thanked the former AEW EVP for kicking some sense into him. ‘The Last Real Champion’, in repentance, said he had been made to pretend to be something he’s not. Cena even affirmed that he flushed the reputation he built off of hard work down the toilet by buying into someone’s crazy idea for false glory.
‘The Franchise Player’ said that when the dust settled on his heel turn, the people who were supposed to be by his side left him alone. It was a apparent dig at Dwayne Johnson and Scott. Cena got a bit emotional while addressing his previous claims of “ruining wrestling for everyone.” He told the audience that he wants to retire with the WWE title so that they won’t forget about him when he rides off into the sunset.

Expressing gratitude toward Rhodes for constantly pushing him to face reality, Cena warned ‘The Prodigal Son’ that the only platinum rapper who’s going to whip him on Sunday is him. The two men will look to dismantle each other at ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’ with the Undisputed WWE title on the line.
Is John Cena faking innocence to make Cody Rhodes emotionally unstable?
The way John Cena completely flipped his character on SmackDown has certainly stirred up a conversation about his authenticity. A section of the audience has its doubts over Cena double-crossing the fans by feigning a change of heart. They believe Cena did it to soften up an otherwise laser-focused Cody Rhodes ahead of their title match at SummerSlam.

‘The American Nightmare’ wanted to see the real John Cena show up for their rematch. Rhodes has gotten his wish fulfilled by the looks of it. On the contrary, there’s a conspiracy theory floating on the internet regarding the potential heel turn of Dusty Rhodes‘ son. A while ago, ‘The QB1’ confirmed that he hasn’t completely discarded The Rock’s offer to him. Could that come into play this weekend?

Either:
1. He’s playing everyone and goes back to being a heel at SummerSlam
2. Cody Rhodes is the one who turns heel
3. Cena is truly back to being a babyface and Cody stays babyface as well.

Whatever that might entail, the WWE Universe is hopeful of a shenanigans-free showdown between Cena and Rhodes. The one they had at WrestleMania 41 was widely criticized for an ugly-looking run-in from Travis Scott, which even Drew McIntyre pointed out recently. The goodwill of the Cena/Rhodes rivalry is hinged on how they’d fare at SummerSlam. They have to deliver this time around.
Is SummerSlam the end of John Cena’s title reign?
John Cena won his seventeenth world title by ousting Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. Since then, ‘The Cenation Leader’ has dispatched the likes of Randy Orton and CM Punk in two successful title defenses he’s had. Though on both occasions, Cena resorted to underhanded trickery to get the job done.

But with his playbook getting old, the cheap shots might not work anymore. Though Cena’s promo on SmackDown made him look like he’s once again a babyface, only time will tell if it wasn’t a ruse for Rhodes. The 17-time World Champion is almost at the tail end of his WWE in-ring career.
SummerSlam could very well be the doomsday of Cena’s ongoing title reign. The fans will look back at it in a polarizing manner, even if it had its loopholes. Some might say the 48-year-old should’ve had more substantial singles feuds rather than some fillers in between.
