Has John Cena accomplished everything he could inside the squared circle? Despite being hailed by many as the greatest WWE Superstar of all time, ‘The Franchise Player’ has never felt the weight of carrying the prestigious Intercontinental Championship.
Moreover, it has also kept him from becoming a grand slam champion. But if the following report is to be believed, the 48-year-old will have his opportunity to win it before retiring in December. As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Peacemaker star is penciled in to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the IC title at Survivor Series on November 29.
Though it’s been stressed enough already, Cena will wrestle for the last time just two weeks after the rumored Mysterio showdown. Even if it’s an extremely slim window between Survivor Series and his highly anticipated swansong at Saturday Night’s Main Event, the fans are rallying for Cena to dethrone ‘Dom’.
Should the ‘Prototype’ take the IC title off the Judgment Day member, he would walk into his last match as the Intercontinental Champion. For the unversed, Gunther is reported to be the one standing across from ‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty & Respect’ on his final night of the retirement tour.

Cena could easily drop the title to ‘The Ring General’ in a strategic booking decision that would put more heat on the Austrian. There won’t be a bunch of fans oblivious to the menace of Gunther, especially when it comes to representing the IC title, which he held for a record-setting 666 days in his first reign.
WWE braces for a major political influx for John Cena’s last match
What started in January on Raw’s Netflix premiere for John Cena is coming to a close. In just about two months, the ‘Last Real Champion’ will bid adieu to the squared circle for good. It will be a tear-jerking night for the entire pro wrestling fraternity. With the historic event set to go down in the nation’s capital, there had already been rumblings for a long time regarding the confluence of political leaders.

Now, as per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE does expect major politicians to be in attendance for the show. Thus far, there’s no confirmation regarding POTUS Donald Trump stopping by the Capital One Arena on December 13 to see Cena bow out.
Trump aside, several key White House officials are believed to be making their presence. Not only politicians, but also the viewers could even expect a plethora of celebrities at Saturday Night’s Main Event, slated to be remembered as the last WWE show John Cena competed in.

Triple H recently unveiled a poster for the December 13th SNME, where one could see Cena as the cover star, as expected. And as briefly discussed above, Gunther is the frontrunner to oppose ‘The Cenation Leader’ in his last-ever WWE match. The company is expected to host a tournament to determine who gets to wrestle the consensus wrestling GOAT in Washington, D.C.
John Cena believes he bombed as a heel in his WWE farewell tour
With only a couple more months to spare until it’s over, has the John Cena retirement tour been a complete bust? Many would argue that’s indeed true. It’s because at one point the success of this year-long project was hinged on how cowardly Cena could act based on the lows he stooped to at the Elimination Chamber.

The segment that turned Cena heel for the first time since 2003 involved The Rock, who completely abandoned the storyline after the Toronto-hosted PLE despite being the centerpiece. And once that happened, WWE lost the plot. In hindsight, the creative team wasn’t prepared for such a contingency, and thus the fiasco.
In fact, Cena himself admitted that he failed to live up to the expectations of being a heel during a recent fan expo in Chicago. He said he’s not upset about it, as failures are bound to happen and one can learn from them. The 17-time world champion reverted to his babyface gimmick just a week or two before taking on Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in their WrestleMania 41 rematch.
