The tennis fraternity is ready to welcome the next generation to enjoy quality tennis now that the era of the Big 3 is coming toward its end. In just a few more years, there will be no Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal, but there is a hope that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will solidify their position as formidable force.
But who is going to be the third member to complete the modern Big 3? John McEnroe wants his compatriot Ben Shelton or Denmark’s Holger Rune to make another formidable trio.
I would put (Ben) Shelton. I am not sure if I'd put (Holger) Rune ahead of Shelton at this point. I am hoping maybe it's just because we're hoping in America he breaks out big.John McEnroe told the BBC
Shelton, the 21-year-old American, produced his best performance in a major event when he reached the 2023 US Open semifinals and has won two singles titles on the ATP Tour. Rune on the other hand, has won four career titles and is a three-time major quarterfinalist, having reached the stage in French Open (2022, 2023) and Wimbledon in 2023.
Who is going to win more Grand Slam titles between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner?
Carlos Alcaraz leads the next generation with four Grand Slam titles, while Jannik Sinner, who became the World No.1 this year won his first in the Australian Open. John McEnroe compared their careers to that of the careers of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to point out how it’s difficult to predict at this moment who’s going to win more Grand Slam titles.

Maybe there'll be someone that surprises us. But clearly, Sinner and Alcaraz have taken it a step way above these other guys. And as far as who's going to win more? Gosh, that's like asking before, who's going to win more, Djokovic or Nadal?John McEnroe told the BBC
Djokovic stands at the top of the list with 24 Grand Slam titles, while Nadal has 22. Both these players have reached the twilight of their careers and it will be interesting to watch whether one of them adds another major title to their trophy cabinet.
All these four players, Djokovic, Nadal, Alcaraz, and Sinner will be playing again at Roland Garros this year for the Paris Olympics, scheduled to start on July 27. Alcaraz will join Nadal for doubles and to prepare himself for the Olympics, Nadal played the Nordea Open and reached his first final after a long time but got defeated by Nuno Borges in straight sets.
