Jon Jones is undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters of all time and has inspired a generation of fighters. The fighter has dominated the UFC for over a decade and has fought some of the biggest names in the history of the sport. However, for UFC veteran Demetrious Johnson, all these achievements aren’t enough for Jones to be proclaimed as the GOAT.

With his height and long reach, Jones is regarded as the perfect specimen for MMA. He recently flexed about having the most number of title defenses, much more than all the current champions combined. However, the fighter doesn’t have a perfect undefeated career, as DJ pointed out in a recent podcast.

He did lose. He lost to Matt Hamill. He f***ing lost. He broke the rules… He was disqualified which led to a loss. So he has lost before.

Jones’ only career loss came against Matt Hamill in 2009 due to disqualification. During their fight, Jones dominated but was penalized for using illegal 12-to-6 elbows. Despite Hamill being unable to continue, the referee ruled it a disqualification, marking Jones’ lone blemish in an otherwise undefeated MMA career.

Recently, the rules were revised, and 12-to-6 elbows were made legal, and Jones campaigned to overturn that loss. However, the loss still remains, preventing ‘Bones’ from being in the same undefeated league as Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nevertheless, that one loss doesn’t take away from the sheer dominance Jones has displayed inside the octagon.

Jon Jones’ nastiest finish in the UFC

Jon Jones dominated the UFC with his exceptional striking, wrestling, and fight IQ. He became the youngest UFC champion at 23 and defended his title multiple times against elite contenders. His versatility, creativity, and ability to adapt in fights solidified him as one of the greatest MMA fighters ever.

He has fought three generations of fighters and beat most of them. Jones has had close fights with the likes of Dominick Reyes, Thiago Santos, etc. However, in his prime, he used to finish his opponents in brutal fashion. UFC veteran Joe Rogan believes Jones is the GOAT and is a huge fan of his fight against Lyoto Machida

He fought Lyoto Machida and it’s one of the most cold blooded finishes in the history of the sport. He grabs him at the cage, presses him against the cage and gets him in his perfect power guillotine. Puts him to sleep and drops him and walks away.

Irrespective of his achievements inside the cage, Jones’ career has been stained with his antics, such as PEDs and criminal cases. The fighter has been found positive twice, which forced the UFC to strip his championship status. However, for many fans and experts, Jones is definitely the best to ever do it.
