Jon Jones Drops Bombshell on UFC; Says,”I’m vacating the light-heavyweight championship”

A very sad moment comes for UFC and fans as Jon Jones hints at his retirement. The UFC Light heavyweight champion claimed that he was vacating the belt. Earlier, he claimed on twitter that he was having ‘really positive’ conversation with the promotion over his next fight taking place a weight class up.
“Just had a really positive conversation with @Ufc,” Jones tweeted. “Sounds like there will be negotiations for my next fight at heavy weight. All good news, the weight gaining process begins.”
But this tweet came after he claimed that he was stepping away and will only return if his demands were met. It seems now that the negotiations happened quickly as Jones tweeted again just am hour after.
Earlier tuesday, he claimed, “Just got off the phone with @Ufc, today I confirm that I’m vacating the light heavyweight championship. It’s officially up for grabs. It’s been an amazing journey, sincere thank you to all my competition, Ufc and most importantly you fans.”
Jones added: “The last I spoke with @UFC about my salary there was no negotiating. If that ever changes, I’d love to come back and compete again as a heavyweight.”
After Jon Jones returned from his suspension, he has won the 205-pound belt back and even defended it thrice. He recently defended it against Dominick Rayes at UFC 247 in February.
Many wanted a rematch if Rayes with Jones, Jones has now decided to move up to the heavyweight division.
Jones challanged Miocic after UFC 252
Recently, when Stipe Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier, Jones had again teased for a move up to to the heavyweight division.
“For some reason these heavyweights don’t seem so big to me tonight,” Jones tweeted on Sunday.
“Avoid Stipe’s right hand, I’m too fast, I’ll be too strong when the time is right and have way too much energy. Soon and very soon I’ll be considered the baddest man on this planet.”
Besides that, the 14 wins in UFC title fights of Jones are most in the promotion’s history.
