Jon Jones has the backing of Tony Ferguson in the GOAT debate, claims Khabib shouldn’t be number 1 in P4P rankings
On October 24, in an eventful night at UFC 254, Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov successfully defeated Justin Gaethje via a triangle choke in the second round. Khabib, at the post match interview announced his retirement, ending his career with 29 wins and no losses. He requested the UFC to put him on top of the pound-for-pound rankings and it finally happened, as Khabib displaced Jon Jones to claim the top spot.
Khabib’s victory threw open the GOAT debate, with the majority of the MMA community agreeing to the fact that he is the GOAT. Jon Jones wasn’t happy right from the beginning saying that he has 11 more title defenses than Khabib has, fought all accomplished fighters, fought in a tougher division and what not.
Now, that Khabib has displaced him in the pound-for-pound rankings, he was even more unhappy taking to twitter to say that Conor McGregor was the only notable opponent Khabib has ever faced in his career. Elsewhere, Tony Ferguson who never fought Khabib although they were matched up atleast 5 times; seemed to agree with what Jon Jones had to say.
“This guy gets it” – Tony Ferguson on twitter
Jon Jones had claimed that, “Unanimous decision over last minute replacement Al Iaquinta to become champion. Conor McGregor is the only opponent he’s ever had that the general public actually knew. Catapulted my man to becoming the best ever, this is hilarious.”
Now, Jon Jones got the backing of Tony Ferguson for posting this. Tony took to twitter to post a GIF with the caption, “@JonnyBones – This Guy Gets It – CSO”. Tony, clearly wants to fight Khabib one day, doesn’t he?
Are Jon and Tony right in their claim that Khabib shouldn’t be the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC?
