Ever since his comeback fight, Jon Jones‘ future as a fighter has been in doubt for months. “Bones” reached 2-0 at the 265-pound mark last November after a year of layoff. However, even another win did not push Jones anywhere close to title unification vs. Tom Aspinall. Ahead of UFC 312 this weekend, Jon Jones is teasing new things that might change that.

According to his latest social media post, reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is ready to make a big announcement in the next 24 hours. The combat sport fans are hoping for a date and venue for his title unification bout with Tom Aspinall. But they may want to temper their expectations. The British interim champ has gone pleading, but without unification for a while now.

In 24 hours I’ll be making a huge announcement! #Andstill

Following an extended injury layoff, Jones defeated heavyweight Stipe Miocic via third-round TKO at UFC 309. He then grazed by the Aspinall heavyweight unification option like a casual breeze. Now that GOAT is 2-0 and touting himself “Johnny Meat”, he wants an “f—ck you” amount of fighter compensation to unify gold. As per Jones, Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) lacks legacy notoriety like ‘best to do it’ – Miocic.

Even double-division champ Alex Pereira has starpower and legacy more than Aspinall. ‘Poatan’ and Jones have been teasing a superfight against each other as well. Recently on The Ariel Helwani Show, even “Poatan” teased that he is the bigger draw for Jones. However, this new tease might mean some positive things in the right direction, AKA Aspinall; fans have reacted to it as such.

Et tu fight fans? Jon Jones’ 24-hour tease goes viral with unification clamor

The UFC will need a lot of convincing in the cog if it wants to stage a title unification fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. Mostly for Jones, who wants mammoth fight compensation and dough worth retiring with. Traditionally, when an interim champion is crowned, a title unification bout is scheduled to follow. However, Aspinall wasn’t that lucky.

Less than two months ago, UFC CEO Dana White said this is the biggest fight to make for the heavyweight crown. Not Pereira; not someone else. However, with contractual hashes and hurdles on for such a fight, “Bones” kept pouring cold water on it. Now, a ‘big tease’ could set things into motion and restore the logjam. Or would it?

It’s a historian of war GOAT Jones, after all. It’s completely at par with the norm for him to label himself “#AndStill” even on the day he retires. Negotiations might fail too. White prompting him as the undefeated Men’s pound-for-pound jewel did not help squander that. Now, here is what fans think of his tease:

Yes – the responses are as nifty as they come even with full-gear UFC context. Some have joked that after a media crew hack for defunct crypto sales, it’s Jon Jones who’s coming up with a crypto announcement. “Duck” Aspinall coin – anyone?

Others have even gone foul and alluded to his domestic case, his battery run-ins, and the like. It’s all sorts of hilarious. However, a major portion of fans are hoping for a heavyweight title unification with Tom Aspinall. One cycle more and time will tell what the day holds for both fighters.
