Last night at UFC 313 inside the T-Mobile Arena, fans saw the emergence of the new light heavyweight champion. Russian fighter Magomed Ankalaev beat superstar Alex Pereira via unanimous decision to take home the belt. Surprisingly, it didn’t take much time for the newly crowned champion to get into a beef with heavyweight champion Jon Jones

Following the fight, Jones commented on a post about him having more title defenses than all the current champions combined. The UFC GOAT remarked it as a ‘small flex’, indirectly showing dominance over other UFC champions. However, Ankalaev was quick to reply and made sure to remind Jones about his controversial antics.

Yes, but all this CHAMPIONs clean his big cheater we all know this.

Jones has a whopping 15 title defenses and he has fought and dominated fighters from three different generations. Among the new champions, lightweight king Islam Makhachev has the highest number of title defenses, that is four. Jones is the youngest ever UFC champion and his longevity is second to none, however, his career is stained with PED usage.

‘Bones’ was found positive twice and stripped of his light heavyweight belt. Though he did manage to bounce back and reclaim his titles, it is often used against him, while questioning his legacy. It seems like after his latest win, Magomed Ankalaev is confident and is ready for all the smoke.

UFC veteran breaks down how Magomed Ankalaev beat Alex Pereira

Going into UFC 313, Alex Pereira was the fan favourite due to his impressive momentum and knockout power. However, Magomed Ankalaev’s wrestling was always a threat and there were few doubts about how the Brazilian would handle it. Turned out that Pereira had a great takedown defense and was not able to stop the challenger on the feet.

He lacked his usual ferociousness on the feet. The Russian repeatedly changed levels to keep Pereira guessing, and ultimately won the fight. UFC veteran Demetrious Johnson also talked about the same in his review after the fight.

It always starts off with the leg kicks. He wants a reaction. Ankalaev wasn’t really addressing the calf kick. Alex Pereira can’t get to the flow state…the reason why is because Ankalaev did a good job of getting extremely close and each time Ankalaev would never overextend.

Pereira believed he had done enough and many fans thought it was a robbery. The potential rematch is on the table and UFC CEO Dana White has also shown green light for it. It will be interesting to see what’s next for one of the biggest superstars in the current roster.
