The UFC like any other sport has always had its heroes and villains in different eras. Both get equal amounts of love and hate from the fans. Jones is admired by many fans all around the world and similarly gets a lot of hate for his antics mostly outside the octagon. Jones’s career is stained with many troubles that frequently hinder his eligibility to be the undisputed GOAT of MMA. Jones has found himself numerous times running into the law for which he has been proven guilty. One such case took place in 2015 when the fighter was involved in a hit-and-run case where he collided his car with another vehicle with a pregnant woman. In 2021, he was charged with a misdemeanor and domestic violence and was arrested in Las  Vegas.

Other than that, Jones has been caught multiple times by the USADA for using banned substances and peds. During his championship fight against DC at UFC 214, Jones was found positive for turinabol. Many old opponents have also called Jones a dirty fighter for his way of fighting. For instance, Quinton Jackson called out Jones for his eye pokes, knee kicks, and behind-the-head elbows.

On top of all this, it’s his personality which makes Jones one of the scariest fighters on the roster. Jones has always been unapologetic and possesses a natural killer instinct.

As an MMA fighter, no fighter has a better resume than Jon Jones. However, Jones doesn’t really appreciate fans calling him the villain of UFC. Jones in an interview revealed that he doesn’t like to be the villain as he is not that in real life. According to the fighter, he can be a little arrogant or cocky at times but that’s only when he’s talking about fights and training.

He said: “I am not going to say I embraced the role of being a villain because I am not. I am not a villain; I am not a bad person. I pride myself on inspiring others. For all the people that think I am cocky, it’s like if you really listen to what I talk about, if you talk to me about fighting you may hear something that is a little arrogant because, right now, I train so hard to not even get hit, let alone talk about rousing a fight.”

While Jones is not okay with his villain character in UFC, it is hard to deny the influence he has on young as well as seasoned fighters. Many other UFC athletes have revealed that growing up they followed Jones’ career and have learned a lot from him.
