Alex Pereira is not yet ready to fight Jon Jones, according to MMA veteran Ben Askren. Pereira vs. Jones is one of the most intriguing fights on the table. However, Askren doesn’t think that’s the best idea for the Brazilian to challenge Jones for the double champ status.
Ben Askren recently spoke with Daniel Cormier on his YouTube channel. During the conversation, Askren revealed that Jones’ wrestling would be too much for Alex Pereira to handle. As such, Askren didn’t think the fight would go beyond one round.
Pereira has still not fought a wrestler. So we still have all of these questions. So if he fights Jon Jones, I think there’s a chance it’s over in like two and a half minutes. I mean, look what Jon did to Ciryl Gane. He’s a large man, he’s a high-level wrestler, he’s got great grappling skills. Yeah, I think there’s a possibility of that for sureBen Askren via Funky & Champ
Jon Jones‘ heavyweight debut got a massive welcome at UFC 285 and the fighter delivered as well. ‘Bones’ defeated Ciryl Gane with ease and submitted him in the very first round. Like Pereira, Gane was also known for his striking; however, Jones used his wrestling skills to breeze through the challenge.
According to Jones, he vs. Poatan would be a great event for the UFC, and the Brazilian fighter was also ready for the challenge. However, UFC CEO Dana White has already rejected all the speculations of the fight. However, another candidate has constantly asked to fight Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall might be the biggest threat to Jon Jones’s legacy, says UFC Hall of Famer
Tom Aspinall is the current UFC heavyweight interim champion of the world. The Brit is eager for his title unification with Jon Jones. However, the fighter has not seen any development. Jones has also publicly ignored Aspinall’s callout.
While discussing the situation, Daniel Cormier revealed that fighting Tom Aspinall is extremely risky for the heavyweight champion.
He loses to Aspinall, people will start to question if he’s that guy, that’s how it works. I mean, for so long, there was never a question that Anderson Silva was the greatest of all timeDaniel Cormier via MMA Junkie
DC gave the example of the legendary Anderson Silva, who faced questions regarding his GOAT status in the later part of his career. Currently, there is no official announcement regarding Jones’s next fight; however, it has definitely kept the fans on their toes.
