Most of the MMA fandom that once stood behind him now goes fiery on Jon Jones for a heavyweight logjam. Interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall has gone some near-500 days holding the belt without unification or some good pointers from Jones. However, ‘Bones’ found himself glad and over the high moons with some recent support he got in Miami, Florida, from the crowd.
UFC CEO and headman Dana White keeps urging the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight will happen. Meanwhile, Team Jackson’s MMA Acoma’s Jones kept digging into the narrative the opponent is not a seasoned name for his legacy. Jones is now the new co-owner of Mike Perry’s “Dirty Boxing” with his heavyweight return in limbo. During โDirty Boxing Championship 1โ weigh-ins, the crowd ran up an X-rated “fโk Tom Aspinall” chant in agreement with Jones.

Jones and Tom Aspinall’s banter has dominated recent MMA headlines and scopes. The heavyweight champ has said that he needs six months out and a โfโk youโ amount in fighter compensations (a rumor of a $30 million sum) to consider unification. Despite audacious claims and holdups, the GOAT seemingly has quite a large contingent of die-hard fans upholding his cause.
The explicitly expletive crowd had Jon Jones bowing and dousing an โI love you guys.โ As such, the fan support is sure to make him fall back on upping his bargain for HW unification. Whether or not Jones vs. Aspinall happens is anybody’s guess.
CEO Dana White says heavyweight unification super-fight feat. Jon Jones almost ‘done, but not done’
What’s the hold up at 265 pounds? For one โ indomitable brit Tom Aspinall has gone through a murderer’s row of 265-pound opponents and made quick work of them. It has thus created a gaping hole of lesser top contenders at the top order.

Sergei Pavlovich hardly made the case with his lackluster UFC Fight Night 250 win at ANB Arena in Riyadh. Alexander Volkov came close with a 4-0 winning steak, history with Aspinall, and a case to fight for the top spot. However, that momentum ended with a highly publicized split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) loss at UFC 310 PPV. Ciryl Gane, Jailton Almeida, and others have momentum but not as much.
For another โ these are all lesser men to Jon Jones who’s on vacation mode after his UFC 309 PPV main event win. He’s now 2-0 in the weight class and wants a legacy out, having faced big names. The Brit has even become impatient and practically ready to cement his own strap as the real one.
Before UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs Brady, Dana White sat down with TNT Sportsโ Adam Catterall. He offered some vaguely good pointers on HW unification.
Iโll tell you what Iโve been telling you since day one โ the fightโs going to happen;โฆItโs just a matter of when now, and getting it signed and done…Itโs going to happen, …Itโs done, but itโs not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But fightโs going to happen. Itโs just a matter of getting it signed now.

Jones’ rumored and unconfirmed asking price has been as high as $30 million. There’s no telling what other godly stipulations are there, yet. He once took a three-year out for a failed contractual hash to face then-UFC lineal HW Francis Ngannou. He then took some more to make the highly anticipated move from 205 to 265 pounds. So, right now, ‘Bones’ isn’t serving the 265 logjam any soon.
