Stories about Jon Jones outside the cage have often been as colorful as his legendary fighting career. From the early days of superstardom to controversies that followed, the UFC icon has built a reputation for being unpredictable. Now, more than a decade later, a new anecdote from Moscow has surfaced, courtesy of light heavyweight Bogdan Guskov, that adds another layer to the wild legacy of ‘Bones.’
Jones’ partying habits have been a recurring theme throughout his career, often clashing with his dominance inside the cage. From tales of late-night clubbing during fight week to well-documented controversies involving alcohol and nightlife, Jones has built a reputation as someone who thrived on chaos outside the Octagon.
While Jones has made an impressive record for himself in the UFC (28 wins, one loss, and one no contest), one of his biggest tests came against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165. The fight has long been regarded as one of the most controversial bouts of Jones’ career. However, Guskov, who was a security guard at that time, recently revealed a story of Jones partying during UFC 165 promotional duties.
I saw Gustafsson leave around 10–11 pm to get some sleep. Meanwhile, Jon Jones stayed in the club until 5 am. He was drunk af. At one point, I even saw him and Frank Mir wrestling on the floor, and none of us dared to break it up. Luckily, they were playing. He drank everything that was at the bar.

Back when Bogdan was working security at an elite club in Moscow, Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson came to the city to promote their fight.

Guskov’s comments highlight the contrast between Gustafsson and Jones, as the Swedish native went back to the hotel early, but Jones continued to party until morning. Looking back, Guskov’s story now feels like a snapshot of two clashing approaches leading into that iconic bout. While Guskov was just a security guard back in 2013, he has made a name for himself in the UFC since his debut in 2023.
He initially faced a loss at the hands of Volkan Oezdemir in his UFC debut. However, he went on to deliver dominant performances against the likes of Ryan Spann, Zac Pauga, and Billy Elekana. His most recent victory was in July 2025 when he knocked out Nikita Krylov in the first round of their fight. However, he is popular for bearing a striking resemblance to light heavyweight veteran Anthony Smith.
What makes this tale especially fascinating is how it mirrors the duality of Jon Jones’ career. On one hand, he remains arguably the greatest fighter the sport has ever seen, capable of brilliance inside the Octagon. On the other hand, stories like these, along with the many controversies that followed him in later years, highlight how his decisions outside of fighting often drew as much attention as his achievements.
Fans react to Bogdan Guskov’s wild Jon Jones story
Stories like this constantly stir up plenty of chatter online, and fans wasted no time weighing in after Bogdan Guskov shared his memory. The contrast between Alexander Gustafsson’s professionalism and Jon Jones’ nightlife antics reminded many of the polarizing narratives that have followed “Bones” for years.

Some fans were quick to laugh at the story, pointing out that Jones still managed to win the fight despite spending his nights in the club. Others, however, weren’t so amused. They felt the story reinforced a frustrating pattern of wasted potential that has been highlighted throughout the Rochester native’s career. Here are some fan reactions to the story shared by Guskov:
Had no motivation at that point.

Some fans argued that if Jon Jones had taken his preparation as seriously as Gustafsson did, his career might have been even greater and far less controversial. Meanwhile, a few even noted how his partying lifestyle foreshadowed the off-the-cage troubles that would later dominate headlines.
