In the opening round of the 153rd Open Championship, Jon Rahm found himself getting distracted by some noise from a spectator at the Royal Portrush. The 2-time major champion would later snap at the fan which was something that did not sit well with the fans on social media.

After making five pars to start the round, Rahm would make two straight birdies on the 6th and 7th holes. Following two more pars at the 8th and 9th hole, the Spanish international ended the front nine with a 2-under par score.

On the par-4 10th hole, Rahm found himself in a tough moment. After his tee shot ended up in the rough, the LIV Golfer would turn towards the spectators and seemed livid. He expressed that one of the spectators would whistle while he was in his backswing, which seemingly distracted him.

Really? Whistling? Right, great time. Right on my backswing. Very smart, whoever it was.

This is not the first time Rahm has lost his cool during the Open Championship. After having an unlucky break in the opening round, the golfer would blast the media for getting in his way. Rahm

While speaking with the reporters after the round, the LIV Golf star also expressed that he probably used that moment (the fan whistling and him snapping) to let out any tension he was holding in.

I know they’re not doing it on purpose. It just seemed like somebody trying to get a hold of someone for whatever it is. It was bad timing. I think I just used the moment to let out any tension I had in me. To be honest, it probably didn’t affect as much as I made it sound like. It was a bad swing as well. Just a difficult hole.

Jon Rahm said in the post-round conference

Rahm entered this tournament following another runner-up finish on LIV Golf this past Sunday. In his home country of Spain, the golfer finished one shot behind the winner, Talor Gooch, in the LIV Golf Andalucia event.

The Spaniard is yet to win this year. However, he has been one of the top performers from the LIV Golf league in the major championships. He, along with his Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton, is the only player from LIV Golf to make the cut in all 3 majors so far.
