For weeks, NXT General Manager, Ava Raine was being shoved down by the tyrannical cadence of reigning NXT Women’s Champion, Roxanne Perez. Ava promised that she’d unveil Perez’s next challenger on this week’s show. As such, Raine introduced TNA Women’s Knockout Champion, Jordynne Grace as the one to pit her against Roxanne for the NXT Women’s title at NXT Battleground.
The premium live event is set to emanate from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on June 9. And now, it just got bigger. The mere thought of a top TNA prospect competing for the ultimate women’s prize on NXT is unprecedented. However, Grace is not new to WWE. Back in January of this year, the 28-year-old was a surprise entrant in the women’s Royal Rumble match. She went toe-to-toe with Naomi, who had just lost the gold to Jordynne in TNA back then.
After Jordynne graced a WWE ring at the Rumble, she was entitled to some well-deserved praise from Triple H. The Game thanked TNA for letting the crossover happen. However, he didn’t call it a product of some Forbidden Door, a term that’s prevalent in Tony Khan’s AEW. If anything The Juggernaut proved from her only WWE match thus far, it’s that she can hang with the absolute best.
And with her being a challenger for the NXT Women’s title at Battleground, who knows if Thick Mama Pump actually ends up dethroning Roxanne Perez? That would make the Texan a double champion. TNA producer and part-time wrestler Gail Kim also stamped her validation on Grace the moment she showed up on NXT this week.
Sexyy Red to host NXT Battleground in Las Vegas
It does seem like WWE is pulling all the stops to make NXT Battleground an overall success. Apart from Jordynne Grace‘s jaw-dropping arrival, rapper Sexyy Red also made an appearance on NXT last night. She’s now set to host the Battleground PLE in Sin City.
And if that’s not it, there’s a lot of matches to look forward to on the card. The inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion will also be crowned at the event. Names like Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parker, Michin, and Kelani Jordan will battle it out in a ladder match to claim the gold.
Meanwhile, Oba Femi will defend his NXT North American title against Wes Lee and Joe Coffey. Raw’s Shayna Baszler locking horns with Lola Vice in an NXT Underground setting is also official. Moreover, Axiom and Nathan Frazer will put their NXT Tag Team titles on the line against The OC.
