Jorge Masvidal‘s decision to retire from MMA didn’t go as planned. The former BMF champion recently revealed how he reached ‘rock bottom’ after his retirement. Masvidal said he fell into deep depression and it was working out that brought him back.
Jorge Masvidal recently sat down for a conversation on Spinnin Backfist. One of the hosts asked Masvidal if he regretted retiring and he had a pretty interesting answer. Masvidal revealed that going into his fight against Gilbert Burns, he did not have any strong interest in retiring. However, in between injuries and how the fight went, Masvidal decided it was time to take his leave.
I hung them up and then I didn't do s**t for 45-50 days, I didn't do a f****** thing... I fell into a deep depression. S*** got a little cr*zier.Jorge Masvidal via Spinnin Backfist
Right after his retirement, Masvidal’s 67-year-old father was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder for a shooting at Masvidal’s Miami home.
This was “rock bottom” for Masvidal. On the day his father got arrested, Masvidal revealed he put his running shoes on and ran for two hours straight. By the end of it, he felt so good that he decided to work out for the rest of his life, regardless of whether he fought or not.
Nate Diaz left Jorge Masvidal hanging at final press conference
Jorge Masvidal is back in action with his rematch against former opponent Nate Diaz. However, this time they are fighting in a boxing ring. They are supposed to fight this June and had their final press conference. However, it seems like Nate Diaz had no interest in facing off against Masvidal this time.
Diaz and Masvidal were doing a four-city media tour of Las Vegas, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles was their final stop. However, Diaz walked out early saying that he never wanted to do this in the first place. Nate Diaz said he has a whole team to represent and told Masvidal to square off with himself.
Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are former BMF rivals and their fight at UFC 244 ended with a doctor’s stoppage, leaving Masvidal as the winner. Now, after all these years they will finally settle their score in the boxing ring.
