The New York Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, are NBA champions for the first time since 1973. It was a historic run as they lost just three games throughout the postseason, including the five-game win over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
However, despite being a huge fan of the Knicks, Stephen A. Smith had his doubts over the Knicks heading into the playoffs. And it looks like Brunson and Hart kept the receipts as the three of them made an appearance on the popular podcast “The Roommates Show”.
The two Knicks stars got Smith to apologize in front of the fans.
I’m a grown a** man. I was beyond grown. I apologized to this brother on national television. I’m apologizing to you. I’m apologizing to the entire Knicks organization. Let me be very, very clear — I have never been more happy to be wrong in my life. I came out of the womb a Knicks fan. I’m 58-years-old. The last time the New York Knicks won a title before last Saturday, I was four.

Jalen Brunson and the Knicks had their fair share of doubters during the playoffs this year. Several critics believed that they didn’t have the squad to go all the way. But those doubts were put to rest as they showed that they are championship contenders during their historic run.
Stephen A. Smith apologized to Josh Hart as well. Hart may not have had the same impact as Brunson, but he played a key role in helping the Knicks win the title. The two did have a beef a few months ago when Hart called Smith a “part-time Knicks fan”. But it looks like Smith’s face-to-face apology to Brunson and Hart was just what the pair wanted to hear.

The Spurs were seen as heavy favorites heading into the NBA Finals by many. Despite their lack of playoff experience, they beat the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The win over the Thunder was a big one, as they were the defending champions. After beating the Thunder in seven games in the Western Conference Finals, the young Spurs team had huge celebrations.
Josh Hart revealed that the Knicks felt that the Spurs celebrated like they won it all, which fueled them to perform even better.
They beat OKC and that for them was a mountain top. You see that reaction because they think they gon’ win it. They think it’s over. We all looked it like this is just a step, this isn’t the destination.

The Knicks were in red-hot form heading into the NBA Finals as they clean-swept the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the previous two rounds. While the Spurs were seen as favorites, the Knicks outplayed them when it mattered the most and sealed the series in just five games.
Jalen Brunson is the king of New York
Very few would have predicted Jalen Brunson’s trajectory since getting drafted into the NBA as a second-round pick. But the 29-year-old has shown steady growth as a player and as a leader with every passing season.
After coming up short in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, many doubted if Brunson can lead the Knicks to a championship. Fast-forward to today, and he has more than just answered his critics.

Former NBA champion Paul Pierce called Brunson the king of New York after what he achieved in the playoffs this year.
I mean, it’s clearly Brunson because his one ring, his one finals MVP is worth all of the championships. Brunson is the king of New York. I don’t know what these other guys talking about right now, it’s a new crown over here. We going to move this over here.

After winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP, Brunson was named the Finals MVP as well. In the Finals, he averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and two steals across the five-game series. And most important of all, he led the Knicks to a championship after 53 years. He has unified the city like no one else in a long time.
