Jannik Sinner always wears an impassive face while on court competing. But in an interview, he said that although he looks ice cool outside, he has a “storm” inside him, and that at the beginning of his career, he used to express his emotions.
Sinner was last seen in action at the Paris Masters, where he defeated every player he faced in straight sets, including Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final, to win his first title in the last Masters 1000 of the season. He then sat for the customary press conference, and his behavior got under French journalist Stephen Brunch‘s skin. During the RMC Sport’s Stephen Brunch podcast, Brun said:
I had a lot of affection for Sinner, but this week, he’s gotten on my nerves! There’s not a smile, not an emotion, in the press conference; he doesn’t do the job. He’s not the funkiest guy in the world, but there, he’s even more antipathetic.
The Paris Masters title helped him reclaim his No.1 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered an opening-round exit to Britain’s Cameron Norrie. It was Sinner’s fifth title of the season, making him the player with the second-most titles on the ATP tour this season, following Alcaraz, the winner of eight titles from 10 finals.
Prior to the Paris Masters, the four-time Grand Slam champion failed to win a Masters 1000 title this season as he lost both the two finals of this level at the Italian Open and the Cincinnati Masters to Alcaraz. Prior to this season, Sinner had never made it past the third round of the Paris Masters.
Ryan Harrison on the underrated skill of Jannik Sinner
Former player Ryan Harrison thinks Jannik Sinner‘s speed is underrated. Following Sinner’s win at the Paris Masters, Harrison analyzed his match on Sky Sports.

You see him playing so much offense that it’s easy to forget when he does have to move around and play defense, he has the ability to scramble with the best of the best.
The five titles that Sinner has lifted this year are: Australian Open, Wimbledon, China Open, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters. He has played four more finals, losing them to Alcaraz. Apart from the aforementioned titles, Sinner also defended his Six Kings Slam title by defeating Alcaraz, taking home the $6 million prize money. This year, Sinner failed to defend six titles, including the US Open.
The in and out of the corners is unlike anyone else, besides maybe one or two other guys, Carlos, and maybe a couple of other guys you could put in that conversation.
Ryan Harrison added
Sinner will next be preparing for the ATP Finals, which is scheduled to start on November 9. He will enter the year-end championships as the defending champion.
The 24-year-old will lose his No.1 ranking to Alcaraz if he fails to defend the ATP Finals. Last year in the event, Sinner gained 1,500 points thanks to his victories in his three round robin matches.
Apart from Sinner and Alcaraz, the players who have already booked a spot in the year-end championship are: Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, and Alexander Zverev. The Serb, tournament’s most successful player with seven titles, last lifted the trophy in 2023 by defeating Sinner in the final. He skipped the tournament this year.
According to ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, Nole will play the ATP Finals. Alcaraz has never ended the year-end championship in his favor, so apart from Djokovic and Sinner, the only player you has won the ATP Finals is Zverev, a two-time champion in the tournament.
