Juan Carlos Alcaraz has broken his silence about why he has parted ways with Carlos Alcaraz. He acknowledged that the failed contract negotiation rumors are true indeed.
Ferrero reportedly was given just 48 hours to accept or reject the new contract. The 45-year-old, during his interview with Marca, admitted that there were disagreements regarding certain parts of the contract, though the financial aspect was not one of the reasons why he did not continue.
The split has “hurt” Ferrero, and in the near future, he doesn’t see himself taking a coaching responsibility. During that aforementioned interview with Marca, Ferrero was asked if he agrees that his philosophy of tennis and life in general is similar to that of Alcaraz’s arch-rival, Jannik Sinner.
I’ve adapted my style as much as I could for Carlos. I’m not considering other options at all because I need two or three months of peace and quiet and for the pain to subside. After that, if other possibilities arise, we’ll weigh them up. In the end, it’s been almost eight years nonstop, and a lot of time away from home. Being home now is a blessing.
Juan Carlos Ferrero said
Ferrero was also asked whether he would coach Sinner if he received the coaching offer from the four-time Grand Slam champion. Sinner, at present, is working with coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi. But there is uncertainty regarding Cahill’s future as he wanted to leave the World No.2’s team following the 2025 season.
It’s something I’d have to think about. They’re extraordinary players, but as I said before, it’s not the time to think about something like that and say yes or no. Now is the time to get through this difficult period because I still think about Carlos every day, and it’s not the time to think about others.
Juan Carlos Ferrreo added
Ferrero joined Alcaraz’s team in 2019 and guided him to 24 tour-level titles, including the six Majors. Two of these Grand Slam titles he lifted this year, at the French Open and the US Open, by defeating Sinner.
The 24-year-old finished the season with six titles from 10 finals, the second-most this year, following Alcaraz- also the winner of eight titles from 11 finals. Sinner locked horns with the 22-year-old six times, winning at Wimbledon and the ATP Finals. Apart from Wimbledon, the Italian ace also defended his Australian Open crown by going past Alexander Zverev.
Juan Carlos Ferrero says watching Carlos Alcaraz play at the Australian Open will be hard
Next year, all focus will shift toward the Australian Open, where Carlos Alcaraz will be aiming to complete the Career Grand Slam. During that aforementioned interview with Marca, Juan Carlos Ferrero admitted that watching his now ex-protege play in the first Major of the season will be hard.

It’s going to be hard not to watch them. I’ve been lucky enough to witness Carlos’s competitive style. I think he has incredible charisma, and I was also captivated by his playing. I hope I can muster the courage to keep watching him and be just another fan.
The Australian Open is the only Major where Alcaraz has yet to progress to the semifinals. He made the quarterfinals in the previous two seasons, losing to Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic, respectively, in four sets both times.
But before the first Major of the season, Alcaraz will be in Incheon, South Korea, for the Hyundai Card Super Match exhibition event, scheduled to be held on January 10. He will square off against Jannik Sinner. The main draw of the Australian Open starts on January 18.
