Juan Carlos Ferrero has given an update on Carlos Alcaraz after his Roland Garros triumph on Sunday (8th June). Ferrero, who has coached Alcaraz since the early years of the young Spaniard, feels that the five-time Grand Slam champion deserves his well-earned break. However, he will be back fresh and with a good mentality for the grass court season.
Alcaraz sensationally won his second Roland Garros title after saving three championship points against World No.1 Jannik Sinner. It was his fifth straight win over his great rival. Carlos Ferrero said on Spanish media channel El Larguero:
He’s disconnecting, he’s disconnecting (laughs) … Yesterday I told him to have fun, that he deserved it, but to remember that he’s a tennis player first and foremost, and these days we knew he was going to make it. Well, we know how he is and he’s doing well. And in the end, when he comes back, he’ll come back with a good mentality, he’ll come back refreshed.
Alcaraz will probably play the Queens Club as his first tournament back from Roland Garros. He won the title in 2023, but lost to Jack Draper last year.

After that, he will move to Wimbledon, where he will pursue a third Wimbledon title. This would move him alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the players to win Wimbledon three times in a row.
How many points Carlos Alcaraz defends on grass?
The French Open is over, and now the spotlight shifts to grass courts. The short but intense grass season has begun, leading up to Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year. Players are already in action as they prepare for the historic tournament at SW19.

World No.1 Jannik Sinner will aim to recover after his tough loss in the French Open final. He has 900 points to defend during the grass swing. This includes 500 points from his title win in Halle and 400 from reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year.
Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No.2, is also under pressure to defend a big chunk of points. He holds 2,000 points from winning Wimbledon in both 2023 and 2024. He also collected 50 points last year from his second-round appearance at Queen’s Club.
With big points on the line, both players need strong performances to maintain their rankings. The next few weeks could have a big impact on the Race to Turin and the year-end No.1 battle.
Carlos Alcaraz increases lead over Jannik Sinner in ATP Race
Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz has widened the gap over Jannik Sinner in the ATP Race to Turin standings. This race is often seen as a key indicator for the year-end No.1 spot. With his French Open victory, Alcaraz has taken a major step forward in that battle.

In one of the most dramatic Grand Slam finals in history, Alcaraz edged past Sinner in five sets. The final lasted five hours and 29 minutes, making it the longest ever at Roland Garros and the second-longest Slam final in the Open Era. The win also secured Alcaraz back-to-back French Open titles.
Beyond the trophy, the Spaniard added crucial points toward qualifying for the ATP Finals in November. The top eight players in the Race to Turin earn a spot, with room for a Grand Slam winner in the top 20 if he doesn’t make the top eight. Two alternates are also selected in case any qualified players withdraw.
Alcaraz now leads the Race by 1,790 points. He entered the French Open with a 1,090-point cushion over Sinner. The Italian, despite his Australian Open title, missed key events—including four Masters 1000 tournaments—due to a three-month ban for failed drug tests.
