24-year-old Julian Alvarez is one of the most reliable goal scorers in England. The forward has impressed audiences on almost every occasion he gets to take to the pitch for Manchester City. Despite his world-class ball-playing ability and hold-up play, the natural No.9 is forced to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland at the club.
While many argue that Alvarez has the ability to lead the attacking line-up at any club in Europe, the time may have arrived for him to make the move from Manchester City. Alvarez made a total of 27 goal contributions for City, out of which eleven were goals in the Premier League. In a recent interview, the player opened up about the attention he has been receiving from other clubs.
I'm calm and feel good and happy at Manchester City. We will see what happens.Julian Alvarez told SportsCenter
The player has been called up by Lionel Scaloni to represent the World Cup winners and defending Copa America champions at the upcoming tournament. He made the starting XI against Ecuador in a 1-0 win in a friendly.
Chelsea prioritize signing of Bundesliga striker over Julian Alvarez
Despite all the attention Julian Alvarez has been receiving from clubs across Europe, Chelsea have been the frontrunner in the race for his signature. Having already signed a former Manchester City star in Cole Palmer, Alvarez’s arrival may be the final block of the puzzle for the Blues. However, reports also suggest that Alvarez is not the primary target for Todd Boehly‘s club.
It is understood that Chelsea have their eyes set on Bundesliga striker Benjamin Sesko with the fee undisclosed. The player is set to make a decision before the upcoming Euros with the club waiting for his response. 21-year-old Sesko scored 18 goals and made 2 assists in competitions this season. As for Alvarez, Chelsea will have to produce a fee in the region of £80 million if they are to lure him away from the Etihad.
The Slovenian striker will face Denmark, Serbia and England in the group stages of the Euros. As for Alvarez, his side Argentina have been drawn alongside Canada, Chile and Peru. Besides Chelsea, clubs like Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have all shown their interest for the 24-year-old.
