Jannik Sinner is the most successful men’s player in 2024. His consistent performances have been garnering him praise from all corners and, following his maiden US Open triumph, a former tennis player from France, Julien Varlet, called the Italian Novak Djokovic 2.0.

Sinner outclassed America’s Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in his first US Open final and the title was also his sixth of the season on the ATP Tour. In a season that had been going smoothly until the doping saga, Sinner came out victorious at the Australian Open after a battle with Daniil Medvedev in the final. The rest of the two Grand Slams were won by Carlos Alcaraz

Varlet thinks that though Sinner may not have the shots that Alcaraz plays, there’s consistency in his game. The 47-year-old also praised Sinner for not showing his emotions on his face, which gives the impression that the Italian is a veteran of the game.

He manages to make his opponents bend with his pace, by not missing. And on a mental level, whether he wins or loses, you never see anything on his face. It's mind-blowing. You get the impression that the guy has already been on the circuit for 30 years. He doesn't show anything. In fact, Sinner is Djokovic 2.0. He's a machine.

Jannik Sinner reveals what kept him going him at the US Open amidst doping criticism

A few days ahead of the US Open, Jannik Sinner landed in controversy as he was cleared of any wrongdoing within five months despite testing positive for a banned steroid (clostebol) twice in March this year. Despite dealing with the doping controversy, he still emerged as the champion In New York.

When asked how he was able to deal with the issue, Sinner credited his family, friends, and his team for keeping his spirits up.

What allowed me to do that was the people who were close to me daily, people who knew me already when I was very young, and also my family and my team and everyone who supports me daily.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

According to a popular conspiracy theory, Sinner has been able to perform consistently and lifted his first two Grand Slams due to the performance-enhancing substance in his body. Sinner’s supporters and several tennis pundits and players, however, rubbished such claims and criticized the ITIA for not following the same process for other players who also got contaminated by mistake.
