Jurickson Profar tested positive for PEDs for a second time in his career and was handed a season-long suspension.

Jurickson Profar has been suspended once again. Almost 12 months after he was suspended over the usage of Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs), he has once again tested positive for them. An ex-MLB star would blast him and claim there was no excuse at this point from him.

After an impressive 2024 season with the San Diego Padres, Profar would become a free agent. He would later join the Atlanta Braves on a 3-year, $42 million deal. This signing at that time was seen as a major boost to the Braves’ offense.

At the end of March last year, Profar got suspended. He was handed an 80-game ban for testing positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) substance.

He would return to action in July and hit a home run in his first game back. The outfielder ended the campaign with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.

As the Braves fans geared up for the 2026 season, they received a major blow. On Tuesday, reports revealed that he had tested positive for Exogenous Testosterone and its metabolites. Due to this being his 2nd offense, he was slapped with a 162-game suspension.

Fans on social media would lose it. Several users on X would slam him for this and called him out.

While reacting to this, former MLB star A.J. Pierzynski took a massive swipe at him. The 2-time All-Star, who previously played with him during the 2013 season with the Texas Rangers, did not hold back on the Foul Territory podcast.

I love Profar. I played with Profar when he first came up, but this, you can’t have this happen. I’m sorry. Like, no matter what, there’s no excuse at this point. … You missed the whole year. You cost yourself a bunch of money. I’m sorry. This is just awful.

Pierzynski was not the only one with some tough words for Profar. MLB insider Jon Heyman also sounded off on him after he got suspended.

In a tweet on X, the New York Post insider called him an “excellent” member of the Mount Rushmore of “baseball cheats“. He would even urge him to pay back the money he received last year.

Jurickson Profar is an excellent candidate for the Mount Rushmore of Baseball Cheats. If he had any integrity he’d return the half year of pay he got last year.

The 33-year-old will not receive any money as the Braves will not owe him $15 million. He will also not be allowed to participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) with Team Netherlands.

MLBPA to appeal Jurickson Profar’s 162-game suspension

Jurickson Profar will miss the entirety of the 2026 MLB season following his 162-game suspension. The MLB Player Association (MLBPA) will appeal this ban.

As per reports, a grievance has been filed by the MLBPA to baseball’s independent arbitrator, Martin F. Scheiman. A successful appeal could see his suspension being reduced a bit.

However, wins in such cases are extremely rare. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the last time a PED suspension was overturned via grievance was more than a decade ago.

Profar scripted some unwanted MLB history following his second suspension. He became the 7th player to receive a 162-game ban from the league for PED since the penalty was increased for second-time offenders.

The last person to receive a 162-game suspension for PED was J.C. Meija. The former Milwaukee Brewers star was found positive for stanozolol and slapped with this penalty in September 2023. The team would later non-tender him. Since then, he has not played in the MLB.

The Braves’ star, however, was not the only player who got suspended on Tuesday. Philadelphia Phillies star, Johan Rojas was also given a ban.

The 25-year-old failed a PED drug test and was given an 80-game suspension. He was also removed from the Dominican Republic roster for the World Baseball Classic. He, like Profar, has appealed this decision.

Rojas is now the second Phillies star to receive a ban from the league due to PEDs in two years. Last season, relief pitcher Jose Alvarado was handed the same 80-game ban after he was disciplined for breaking the drug policy rules.

Only time will tell what the final decision regarding these two players will be. Profar’s suspension begins this Friday.
