When the Los Angeles Chargers began the season with a 2-0 record, the team’s pursuit to land Jim Harbaugh seemed absolutely worthy. However, late in the week’s victory, quarterback Justin Herbert sustained an ankle injury that disrupted his momentum, resulting in two consecutive losses.
Although Herbert played well on Sunday, despite his recovering ankle, he couldn’t succeed in putting numbers on the scoreboard, surrendering before the Kansas City Chiefs at 17-10. In both the losses that the Chargers suffered recently, they haven’t been able to exceed beyond 10 points.
The disappointment on everyone’s face was quite evident on Saturday, but Herbert particularly gained attention as he couldn’t control his emotions late in the game. With frustrations boiling over his head, the quarterback was seen banging his helmet into a bench on the sidelines, during the fourth quarter.
Herbert, who hasn’t lost his temperament ever, couldn’t handle a losing streak, considering he had high hopes this season. His frustration was reasonable to a certain extent, as he was sacked twice and hit ten times by the Chiefs defenders.
In the second half, the Chargers made a handful of good plays, but none of them resulted in any points as they missed a field goal, turnover on downs, and recorded two punts on four drives.
Justin Herbert addresses offensive line issues after narrow loss to Chiefs
Even though Los Angeles made their best efforts, their performance was quite average to defeat the Super Bowl defending champions, who have now improved to a 4-0 season standing.
During the post-game press conference, the former Offensive Rookie of the Year addressed the issues with the Chargers offensive line and how miscommunication hindered them from making correct, strategic plays, instead of recording penalties.
Despite highlighting the lackings of the offensive line, the quarterback didn’t blame them for the defeats. Currently, the offense is without two of its key weapons, Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater, because of injuries and their backups couldn’t handle the strong Kansas City defenders.
