Tommy Fleetwood has finally joined the winners’ circle on the PGA Tour. On Sunday, the English golfer buried his past demons and claimed his 1st PGA Tour win as he won the Tour Championship. His fellow countryman, Justin Rose, would laud his efforts while celebrating his win on social media.

Fleetwood entered the tournament this week with some strong finishes in the previous two events. At the BMW Championship, the 34-year-old finished T4, 5 shots behind eventual winner Scottie Scheffler.

A week before that, he finished T3, one shot behind Rose and J.J. Spaun, who finished top of the standings at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Rose went on to win that event in the playoff round against the reigning U.S. Open champion.

This year, he suffered a heartbreaking loss at the Travelers Championship while searching for his first win on the PGA Tour circuit. With his near misses, many golf fans were rooting for him on Sunday.

After scores of 64, 63, and 67, Fleetwood edged closer to victory. He would start off the final round with 3 birdies in the first 7 holes and build a lead. He eventually finished the round with a 2-under 68 score.

This, however, was enough to see him over the line. Runners-up Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay finished 15-under par for the tournament, 3 shots behind Fleetwood, giving the World No.10 golfer his maiden victory on the PGA Tour.

Following his win, Justin Rose took to his social media account to celebrate. The former World No.1 claimed that Fleetwood’s win felt as good as winning himself. He would later call him the deserving tour champion.

This felt as good as winning myself! So happy for my man @TommyFleetwood1 for enduring the relentless pressure cooker his quality golf has put him in during these playoffs and there is no more deserving champ.

Tommy Fleetwood’s Tour Championship triumph also sees him being crowned the 2025 FedEx Cup champion. This year, the starting strokes format was removed by the PGA Tour, which meant that all 30 golfers playing in the Tour Championship would start at even-par.

Fleetwood was in contention in the previous two events as well. Despite the near misses in those tournaments, the golfer was satisfied with his outings.

I think I’m proud of what I’ve done before. Whether I’ve won or not, I’ve still been proud of my career so far, knowing that I still have a long way to go and lots of learning. This doesn’t change that really. This is hopefully just one win, the first of many to come. You cannot win plenty if you don’t win the first one.

Tommy Fleetwood said in the post-round interview

Fleetwood also pocketed $10 million as the winning prize from the $40 million mega purse. He has now made over $42 million in career earnings while playing on the PGA Tour.
