Juventus slay Crotone 3-0 to stay in Serie A title race
Juventus defeated Serie A bottom placed side Crotone 3-0 to reignite their title hunt. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first half brace and Weston Mckennie secured the win for the hosts with a 3rd goal.
Juventus were under scrutiny after defeat to Napoli had been followed by a Champions League loss against Porto, but the defending champions coasted to a comfortable success to move up to third in the table.
Juventus moved to within 8 points of Inter Milan
The hosts dominated the majority of the first half but had to wait until the 38th minute to make the breakthrough. Ronaldo headed home from an Alex Sandro cross to give a deserving lead to Pirlo’s side.
Ronaldo doubled his tally in first-half stoppage time with another impressive header, this time from an Aaron Ramsey cross. Weston Mckennie sealed the result after the break, scoring impressively in the 65th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo, with his brace against Crotone, has now scored against every team he in Serie A since making the move to Italy in 2018. Ronaldo also surged a goal ahead of Romelu Lukaku in the race for Serie A’s leading goal scorer. He now has 18 goals this season in the Italian league.
“The desire we have to return to the top makes me feel comfortable,” Pirlo said. “The attitude of the players also pleases me.
“When we have more players free from injury I will have more choice and this also makes me feel comfortable. We know that Inter are a great team and we know we have to fight [to win the title].”
Juventus moved to 3rd in the league and now trail Inter, who are on top by 8 points. They face Verona next in their league match and will look to close the gap further on both AC and Inter Milan.
