Kamaru Usman believes a fight with Georges St-Pierre more likely than a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov

Georges St-Pierre and Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman destroyed Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261, handing the Miami based star his first-ever knockout loss in his UFC career. With that win, Usman neared the record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC set by Anderson Silva. Usman now has 14, whereas Silva’s record stands at 16.

Talks of calling Usman the greatest welterweight of all time, if not the greatest of all time, have already begun. And, if the Nigerian Nightmare keeps winning like the way he has been, it will only be a matter of time before he is hailed as the GOAT.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Kamaru Usman

Speaking in an interview with TMZ Sports, Usman was asked if a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov would ever happen, and what his thoughts were on the fight. Usman felt that the fight happening was more hypothetical than a fight against Georges St-Pierre.

Usman was quoted as saying, “It absolutely would be the biggest fight in UFC history. But the problem is, it wouldn’t happen. That’s just hypothetical. I’ve lost faith in this one as well. I think you have more of a chance of making Kamaru Usman and Georges St-Pierre happen before Kamaru Usman and Khabib Nurmagomedov. That one just won’t happen.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired officially a month ago. The Russian decided to hang up his gloves at UFC 254, in the aftermath of defeating Justin Gaethje. The Dagestani is a man of his word and would never return to the octagon by any means. Hence, Usman is right in claiming that the fight would never happen.

Georges St-Pierre, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since 2017. He announced his retirement in February 2019. The Canadian will be turning 40 this year, and the chances of him fighting the Nigerian Nightmare is slim as well.
