In Short
  • Kamaru Usman predicts Brock Lesnar would defeat Jon Jones in a wrestling match.
  • Jon Jones responds, claiming he could beat both Usman and Lesnar on the same night.
  • The rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier reignites with recent accusations of performance-enhancing drug use.

Jon Jones has shown countless times that he is ultra-competitive when it comes to combat sports. Not only does he hate losing in the octagon, but he also hates “losing” a glove touch, always having his hands above his opponents. But his reply to Kamaru Usman‘s fantasy match-making shows that this nature also carries over into hypotheticals.

The former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion is seemingly retired now. Nevertheless, he has backtracked on this supposed retirement several times, recently suggesting that another fight in the UFC is not completely impossible. Jones also seems open to a bout in a different promotion.

Recently, Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo discussed a potential RAF wrestling match between Jon Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar. In an episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Usman claimed Jones would not stand a chance against ‘The Beast Incarnate.’

Who would win? Hypothetically, I would say the sheer size of Brock Lesnar and the way he wrestled. Brock Lesnar wasn’t necessarily a guy ripping shots all the time, but he could wear guys down…Brock would be a bit more offensive, and trying to get a guy of that size down multiple times? I just don’t see it. I think Brock Lesnar potentially [defeats Jon Jones].

Kamaru Usman on a Jon Jones vs Brock Lesnar wrestling match

Every MMA fan knows Jon Jones isn’t one to take comments like these lying down. ‘Bones’ took to his Instagram story to reply to Usman’s analysis of this potential matchup. Jones expressed that he could beat both Kamaru Usman and Brock Lesnar on the same night.

@usman84kg I’m getting my hand raised against you and Brock in the same night.

A potential wrestling match between the two former UFC heavyweight champions would be incredible. Not only are they both legends in MMA, but they both also have amateur wrestling credentials. But is the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ correct in his assessment?

Both Lesnar and Jones are accomplished amateur wrestlers, winning the NJCAA championship in their sophomore and freshman years, respectively. However, Jones dropped out of college early and quit wrestling to focus on MMA.

In contrast, Lesnar stuck around, eventually becoming an NCAA champion in 2000. So, coupling this advanced wrestling pedigree with his sheer physicality, the ‘Beast Incarnate’ is a relatively safe bet when it comes to wrestling Jon Jones.

Nonetheless, any rivalry between Jones and the recently retired Lesnar is purely hypothetical. What is very real is the bad blood between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, which very nearly boiled over once again.

Daniel Cormier brings up Jon Jones’ alleged PED use again

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier seemed to settle their feud in the octagon in 2017. Jones knocked out ‘DC’ with a head kick in the main event of UFC 214, going up 2-0 in their fights. However, nearly ten years later, the bad blood between them has not subsided. In fact, ‘Bones’ even challenged Cormier to a 1-minute fight to settle a dispute.

Recently, during an ALF Reality segment, Cormier and Jones went at it once again, with their second fight being the point of contention. Cormier brought up how Jones had every physical advantage over him, but still allegedly resorted to performing enhancers.

200 cm height, eight years youth difference, still so insecure that he stuck a needle…Still so insecure, eight years younger!

Cormier went even further, saying that Jon Jones wasn’t the one to inject the PEDs into himself. Instead, Cormier joked that seasoned manager Abe Kawa does it for him. With all this said, Jon Jones had to retaliate.

‘Bones’ reminded Cormier that he had warned him about the head kick. Jones also pushed back against Cormier, accusing him of steroid use, saying steroids can’t do anything to protect someone from a head kick “one year before it happens.”

It seems Jon Jones cannot help but find himself embroiled in feuds. Whether it’s with a former rival on a reality show or in a hypothetical one with the ‘Beast Incarnate,’ it seems fighting is what he knows best. However, for now, at the very least, Jon Jones is retired.
