Belal Muhammad has now become the new UFC welterweight champion. He beat Leon Edwards at UFC 304 and claimed the title in his first-ever title fight. Former champion, Kamaru Usman has taken aim at ‘Remember The Name’ ever since he laid eyes on the title. He recently took a shot at the champion on X after Muhammad recently met up with lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.
After winning the welterweight belt, Belal Muhammad recently did a photoshoot with Islam Makhachev in Abu Dhabi. After clips from the shoot made it to the internet, Usman trolled Muhammad on X writing that he did not know how to hold the belt.

Usman captured the title by defeating Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 back in 2019. He had a long successful reign where he defended his title five times. Usman defended his title against top contenders such as Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal (twice), and Gilbert Burns. It all came to an end when he lost to Leon Edwards at UFC 278. He still is a top contender in the division and ranks #2 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
With Belal Muhammad as the new champion, Kamaru Usman has already stated plans for a potential matchup later this year or early 2025. It will be interesting to see how long Muhammad’s title reign lasts and how this potential matchup plays out in the welterweight division.
Belal Muhammad responds to Kamaru Usman
Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad headlined the main event at UFC 304. The fight went the distance and ‘Remember The Name’ walked away with the unanimous decision victory. Muhammad had extensively trained with Team Khabib so it is only natural that he celebrates with them afterwards.
Now, Belal Muhammad is not one to shy away from a verbal back-and-forth online. Just about an hour after Usman’s tweet, ‘Remember The Name’ shot back at the former champion. He wrote that the Dagestani had also taught him to clean Usman’s fingerprints off the belt.
Muhammad had already named the probable contender for his first welterweight title defense. In the post-fight interview, ‘Remember The Name’ said he would like to fight top welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov. The Kazakh is currently an undefeated contender with six consecutive UFC wins under his belt and a professional MMA record of 18 wins and 0 losses.
