The New York Knicks’ head coach search position just got more interesting. After being rejected by multiple head coaches of different NBA franchises, the Knicks have now turned their attention to the South Carolina Gamecocks’ HC Dawn Staley. At first, many thought this news was fake, but the Knicks don’t seem to be joking around.

Per KnicksFanTV via X, the Knicks have reportedly reached out to Dawn Staley regarding their head coaching position. A three-time NCAA champion and four-time Naismith Coach of the Year, the news instantly made many laugh on social media. One Knicks player even made fun of himself in a post because of the news.

The Knick in question was none other than Karl-Anthony Towns. A video shows her yelling profanities during a random game with the description, “Dawn Staley when KAT picks up his third foul in the first quarter,” which is the most widely shared meme. KAT reacted to this very post with a crying laughing emoji.

Towns endured a challenging postseason and was subjected to similar criticism of his career. Especially early in games, the Knicks have a reputation for making dumb fouls. However, the 29-year-old Knicks star man answered the meme in a funny way rather than taking offense at the post.

Is Tom Thibodeau being replaced by Staley? Is KAT only playing tricks on us? Who knows? The former WNBA player would become the first full-time female head coach in NBA history if Staley is indeed the missing piece for New York. This would only further her legacy, which is already immortalized in Springfield’s Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, where she was inducted in 2013.

If this truly happens, the NBA world will go into a frenzy. The league has seen it all, from unexpected trade deals to surprising head coach moves. However, the Knicks’ hiring Staley would leave everyone stunned. Only time will tell how this situation unfolds.

The Knicks have made some progress in their search for a new Head Coach

Regarding the current state of the two former NBA head coaches’ applications for the position, new rumors have emerged. According to KnicksFanTV, Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins are both moving on to the next phase of the process and will speak with the Knicks again. Now, with Dawn Staley also getting added in the mix, the next few days will be an interesting watch on the iconic franchise.

During his six seasons as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, Jenkins had a 250-214 record. He fulfills several requirements essential to the Knicks’ hunt. However, his Grizzlies only made it to the second round of the playoffs once in 2022 during his six years in Memphis. Their 2024–25 season ended in a six-game loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Furthermore, Brown has been a head coach in the NBA for eleven years. He took charge of the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers, going 454-304. He has led clubs through successful postseason campaigns with a variety of squads and has a greater background than Jenkins. Brown to the Knicks will be an interesting watch.

Knicks can make NBA history if they hire Dawn Staley

The position of head coach for the New York Knicks remains vacant with the dismissal of Tom Thibodeau. As mentioned above, the Knicks have targeted Dawn Staley. It might be time for the Knicks to make history after many reports of different coaches. As a coach and player, Staley is a legend in women’s basketball.

As a basketball player, Staley helped Team USA win three gold medals at the Olympics and two at the World Cup. She won three NCAA titles with South Carolina in the women’s division, where she currently coaches, and one Olympic and one World Cup gold medal with them. If the Knicks are to hire Staley, as the NBA’s first female coach, she would make history.
