Karl-Anthony Towns revealed how he was informed of trade to the Knicks

Nothing indeed lasts forever, as was the case of Karl-Anthony Towns, who had been a cornerstone for the Minnesota Timberwolves over the years. When he was shockingly traded to the New York Knicks, he revealed that he received the news when Timberwolves president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, visited his home.

Just like the fans, this gesture was appreciated by new teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart as Karl-Anthony Towns shared the story during an appearance on the Roommates Show. Towns also shared that Connelly visited while he was with three close friends and his father, just moments before the news became public.

Found out in four minutes. By the time the shock wore off, Shams had already tweeted. I didn’t get called. Tim told me to my face that I was traded. I was in Minnesota, he came to the crib… It was me, three of my closest friends, and my pops, so shout out to him, he came to a house by himself.

Beyond it being a shocker, the deal also involved three teams, the Timberwolves, Knicks, and Charlotte Hornets. In return for losing KAT, the T-Wolves acquired Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

Fans of the ‘Mecca’ are more excited as they’ve gained a versatile big man who can score inside, stretch the floor with his three-point shooting as well as dominate on the boards. His final season with the Wolves saw him average 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

Karl-Anthony Towns wanted to retire at the Minnesota Timberwolves

Aside from how he received the news of his trade, Karl-Anthony Towns also thought he would spend his entire NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He felt blindsided even though he had signed a four-year, $224 million super-max extension with Minnesota.

I thought I was gonna retire there, I thought it was gonna be the place I called home for my whole career and then after. My former employer did not agree with that ideology I had. It is what it is. I’m here now, with my two guys here, and hoping that we can do something special for the city.

As earlier mentioned, his salary will cost New York $49 million in his first season, a figure that is set to rise to over $61 million by the 2027-28 season when he holds a player option. Meanwhile, it worked for the Knicks, as they are benefiting from Jalen Brunson’s team-friendly deal when he took a pay cut.

Fans will be eager to see Towns make his regular-season debut for the Knicks on Tuesday. They face the defending champion Boston Celtics away at the TD Garden in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
