Karl-Anthony Towns’ height comes at a disadvantage as he can’t ride in fancy sports cars

Being wealthy as a basketball player looks fun but it has its downside as Karl-Anthony Towns shared a frustrating story that most fans wouldn’t expect. He made this known when he made an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’ show.

During the show, Karl-Anthony Towns was asked by Shannon Sharpe if he owned a car and he explained that his height has left him at a disadvantage. Basketball players are generally tall and don’t have the luxury of enjoying small motor vehicles as their contemporaries in other sports like football or soccer do.

I’m seven foot. What kind of car am I getting in? I told my friends… I worked so hard in my life to get the finances that I have, and now when I got it, I can’t get anything.

The latest New York Knicks signing is listed as a seven-foot-tall player and that can only afford him a sports utility vehicle and not a sports car. And from what he said, he isn’t willing to take the  Shaquille O’Neal route of customizing a ride to suit his physical stature.

Money shouldn’t be a problem for Towns as the three-time NBA All-Star is on a lucrative $224 million supermax contract that brings in roughly $56 million per year. And sadly, his height which is an advantage in the game, is a hindrance to him enjoying the fruit of his labor outside the game.

Karl-Anthony Towns nicknamed by new teammate Josh Hart

Moving from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns made his debut for the New York Knicks in the preseason win over the Charlotte Hornets, where he scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in 15 minutes. After the game, Knicks forward Josh Hart introduced a clever new nickname for Towns on social media.

Fans will find it amusing that it ties him to New York’s bodega cats, which are known for their presence in the city’s iconic small stores. Also, the nickname plays on Towns’ long-standing moniker “KAT,” which has been an abbreviation of his initials since he entered the NBA.

KAT arrived in New York following a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he made four All-Star appearances and was known as one of the best offensive big men in the league. During his time in Minnesota, he averaged 22.9 points per game as well as maintained impressive shooting percentages.
