Karolina Muchova‘s comeback efforts went in vain in the end. On Saturday (July 11), countrywoman Linda Noskova, after securing a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win in the final of Wimbledon, became the third Czech woman in four years to lift the trophy at SW19 after Marketa Vondrousova (2023) and Barbora Krejcikova (2024).
The 21-year-old is, in fact, the 10th woman to taste glory in the grass-court Major since Serena Williams‘ title defense in 2016. Since the tennis legend’s win (also her seventh singles title at the tournament), no woman has yet to defend the title.
Noskova played her career’s first Grand Slam final. But for Muchova, it was her second appearance in a Major final, following her 2023 Wimbledon loss to Iga Swiatek.
During her latest defeat, Muchova, after easily losing the first set, forced a comeback in the second set but couldn’t capitalize on her momentum. She couldn’t repeat what she produced in the second set in the decider. Following the heartbreak, Muchova was all tears, but her comment during the trophy presentation saw the Centre Court crowd, as well as her now “ex-friend” Noskova, erupt in laughter.
It’s really tough to find any words. Linda, my ex-friend! I’m kidding, obviously, kind of! You’re so young, and this is your first Grand Slam final, and the way you handled it and played was unbelievable. You’re a very kind person and human being, so congratulations to you and your team. I’m really glad to be standing here, even though I’m pretty disappointed now.
Muchova was chasing her second grass-court title following the Bad Homburg Open, where she received the walkover from four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
When I look to my corner, I have all my friends and family who cancelled their plans and came here for me. I appreciate them all. I’ll be fighting, fighting more, and I want that trophy, and I hope I get the chance to get to the final again, and I will come back.
Karolina Muchova added
For Noskova, it was her career’s second title on grass. Before arriving in London, she clinched the Berlin Open by defeating Jessica Pegula.

Linda Noskova reacts after winning the Wimbledon title
Linda Noskova has now tied the head-to-head record with Karolina Muchova at 1-1. Before their latest match, they faced each other in the third round of last year’s US Open. En route to the victory in the London Major, Noskova failed to convert five championship points.

It feels incredible. It’s been so tough, physically and mentally. It’s never easy to get the last point, and Karo, you made me work so hard for it. I’m so happy I could play my first Grand Slam final with you; we made history today. I believe that all our Czech fans at home are proud of us, so no matter the result, I think it was a good day for both of us.
Linda Noskova said during the trophy presentation
Noskova has become the youngest woman to win in the third Major of the season since her compatriot Petra Kvitova 15 years ago. Before the Noskova-Muchova match, the last time two players from the same country competed at the All England Club was between Americans Serena Williams and Venus Williams in 2009.
In the semifinals, while Noskova registered a straight-set win over Marta Kostyuk, Muchova saved a championship point during the epic three-set battle against Coco Gauff. For Noskova, it was her career’s third title from the eighth final. It was also her career’s first Big Title. She came close to winning a Big Title in last year’s China Open but failed to beat Amanda Anisimova.
