One name that comes to mind when the NASCAR community discusses the driver that retired too soon is Kasey Kahne. He retired at the age of 38, while the veteran driver of his generation like Kevin Hravick and Denny Hamlin raced past 2020’s with the latter still being a championship contender.
Recent reports suggest that the veteran is set to end his eight-year hiatus from the sport and ready to make a comeback. According to Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, the racer is in talks with Spire Motorsports to race full-time for them in the Truck Series.
Kahne, 46, is expected to sign with Spire Motorsports to take the wheel of one of the team’s entries in the Truck Series for the entire 2027 season, according to sources briefed on the situation and granted anonymity to discuss the in-progress deal.
Jordan Bianchi reported.
It’s surprising, considering the veteran hasn’t racer in NASCAR since the retirement in 2018, after health issues, with excessive dehydration being the biggest challenge. Kasey Kahne has only races in six Truck races in his career and has won in five of them, with the Pocono P2 with KBM in 2010 being the only blemish in the almost perfect record.
Kahne last raced full-time in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series from 2004-2018, winning 18 times, including multiple crown jewel races, and was one of the sport’s most popular drivers. He abruptly retired toward the end of the 2018 season due to health reasons, including excessive dehydration that made it difficult to contest the longer Cup races.

Kasey Kahne is a perfect fit for Spire Motorsports?
According to the reports, Chevvy and Spire wants a driver that is capable of winning the race from day one. They seem to believes Kahne, who hasn’t raced in the third division for over 11 years is the perfect choice to compete for the title.

One of the impetuses to sign Kahne was that Spire and its partner Chevrolet sought a driver who they believe can consistently contend for race wins and compete for a championship.
Jordan Bianchi reported.
The biggest concern for the veteran is the health issue returning, as at this age he won’t be able to race long distance. Truck Series having shorter racer help to avoid any such issues and that might be the reason Kahane is entertaining the offer.
Kahne, who has won five career Truck Series races in just six starts, fits that criteria. The Truck races are the shortest distance of NASCAR’s three national series, which should mitigate his previous health issues.
Jordan Bianchi added.
The team might also be looking to recruit Brad Keselowski, who is set to exit RFK Racing at the end of the 2026 season and has plans to continue racing. Hiring one of the two or both would be good short-term investment for the team.
