Katlyn Chookagian vs Viviane Araujo is being targeted for UFC 262 on the 15th of May, this year. Chookagian is currently ranked number 2 in the women’s flyweight rankings, whereas Viviane Araujo is ranked number 7. A win here for Chookagian, might earn her another shot at the title. And, as for Araujo, a win might propel her into the top 5 of the flyweight rankings.

The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, who also confirmed the date of the fight (May 15). Nolan King of MMA Junkie, later confirmed that UFC 262 was the event scheduled on the 15th of May.

Brett Okamoto tweeted, “UFC finalizing a women’s flyweight bout between No. 2 Katlyn Chookagian (@blondefighter) and No. 7 Viviane Araujo (@ViviAraujoMMA), per UFC officials. Big one for Araujo, who is 4-1 in the promotion and shown a lot of potential.“

Katlyn Chookagian is coming off a victory over Cynthia Calvillo, as recently as UFC 255. She beat Calvillo via unanimous decision. Chookagian had a very average 2020, after starting off with a loss against Valentina Shevchenko and then beating her sister Antonina. Just when Katlyn thought she had found the winning formula, she stumbled at the hands of Jessica Andrade, before getting back to winning ways against Calvillo.

Viviane Araujo is coming off a victory against Roxanne Moddafferi at UFC Fight Night, in January, this year. She is 5-1 in the UFC, with her only loss in the UFC, coming against Jessica Eye.
