Performing at the Super Bowl halftime show comes once in an eon for most musicians. So, when the opportunity comes, performers embrace it wholeheartedly, just like Bad Bunny, who is slated to headline Super Bowl LX.

His selection sparked significant pushback from MAGA-backed right-wing groups, with some even threatening to boycott the show. That said, Bad Bunny got support from several well-known faces in the industry.

Among them is Kate Perry, who, hours before kick-off at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, urged Bad Bunny to showcase the “Real American Dream.”

You got this, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. Remind the world what the real American dream looks like.

In September 2025, the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would perform during the halftime show at Super Bowl LX. Shortly after, Bunny appeared on Saturday Night Live and urged the world to learn Spanish.

The “VeLDA” singer said,

I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl. I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy. If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.

Hailing from Puerto Rico, the Grammy winner made his name by captivating listeners with jaw-dropping compositions in his native Spanish. So, it’s believed that a third of his Super Bowl performance will be in Spanish as well. That doesn’t mean the audience has to learn the language from scratch.

I know I told them they had four months to learn Spanish. They don’t even have to learn Spanish. They (can) learn to dance.

Right-wing groups, including the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, expressed discontent with Bad Bunny’s statement. Trump even challenged Bad Bunny’s status as a global star.

Turning Point USA, a non-profit group affiliated with the MAGA movement and founded by the late Charlie Kirk, has reportedly put together an alternative Super Bowl halftime show featuring country music star Kid Rock.

Following the backlash, Katy Perry, who performed at the 2015 Super Bowl, voiced her support for Bad Bunny. It won’t be the first time Bunny steps onto the stage at football’s biggest event. To remind the world, Shakira shared a video on Instagram.

Remembering our first performance together at Super Bowl 2020 and wishing you, Benito, all the best tonight.

Bad Bunny dislikes the actions of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) soldiers who occasionally use excessive force to enforce the law. In protest, he had avoided performing on the mainland before bagging the Super Bowl LX gig.

Speaking with I-D Magazine a while back, Bad Bunny revealed,

People from the U.S. could come here [in Puerto Rico] to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world. But there was the issue of—like, [expletive] ICE could be outside.

According to sources, ICE has been included in the security detail outside the venue. However, they will stick to ensuring the safety of the audience rather than conducting an enforcement drive.
