Keegan Bradley and Team USA were dealt a huge punch on Day 1 of the 2025 Ryder Cup. Team Europe would dominate the day and win both the opening sessions. Despite this rough showing on Friday, Bradley claimed that he will stick to his plan and was not panicking.
In the opening foursomes sessions, Team Europe drew first blood as Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton knocked down Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas. The Americans went 1UP on the first hole and were tied till the 7th hole.
The LIV Golf duo of Rahm and Hatton turned the match around from the 8th hole and ended up beating the Americans 4&3. Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick then defeated the duo of Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley 5&3. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood dominated the pairing of Colin Morikawa and Harris English.
McIlroy and Fleetwood won the match by being 5UP with 4 holes to play. Team Europe failed to get the sweep as Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele won against Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre.

In the afternoon four-ball sessions, Keegan Bradley’s team pairings were questioned once again. Scheffler and J.J. Spaun lost against Rahm and Sepp Straka. DeChambeau and Ben Griffin suffered late heartbreak against Fleetwood and Rose.
Cameron Young and Justin Thomas then dominated the duo of Aberg and Rasmus Hojgaard. The American pair won this set with a 6UP score and with 5 holes to spare. Meanwhile, Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay tied the final match against 2024 Zurich Classic champions Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

With his team down by 3 points after Day 1, the attention will be on Bradley and his selections. Ahead of the action on Saturday, the US Captain claimed that they were going to stick with his plans and not panic about the results.
We have a plan of what we’re going to do. … We’re sticking to our plan. We’re not going to panic. We’re not going to panic and make those sort of mistakes. We’re going to stick to what we know. We have a lot of confidence in them.

Social media reacts to Keegan Bradley’s decision following tough Day 1 against Team Europe
Team Europe started strong on Day 1 of the Ryder Cup. The visitors dominated the opening session and won 3 out of the 4 matches, putting the pressure on US Captain Keegan Bradley.

Bradley’s decision to pair Colin Morikawa along with Harris English for the third foursomes match was something that ignited huge debates. This American pairing was blown away by Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.
Despite this, the 8-time PGA Tour is confident about his team and will not change his tactics drastically to turn things around.
This is something that had the fans losing their minds. Many of them on X questioned his decision and took a swipe at him. One user wrote, “he sounds like he already lost” while expressing their concerns regarding this comment from Bradley. Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

How about some passion. “Were sticking to the plan” your plan sucks. Your stats suck. Wake up

Sticking to a plan is less important than trying to put your best team forward – based on what happened today.

Not panicking? Omg. Is this Zach Johnson all over again?

Your plan sucked on day 1 and it’s gonna suck on day 2. JJ and Cam should replace English and Morikawa.

“Keegan you CANNOT play Morikawa/English again on Saturday morning. Its malpractice! They will get slaughtered again! You CANT do it !!”

That was the worst performance at a press conference since Watson and Mickleson. The Euros just made more putts lmao

Morikawa and English will be paired up again on Saturday and face the duo of McIlroy and Fleetwood in a rematch. This will be the 2nd match of the Saturday morning foursomes between the two teams.
Keegan Bradley claims Team USA are “excited” despite troubling start on Day 1
Team USA got off to a poor start in its own backyard on Friday. After losing the opening session, they did improve a little towards the end of the day. During the press conference, Keegan Bradley claimed that his team were “excited” despite the troubling start on Day 1.

The golfer acknowledged that things would be difficult for them and gave credit to the European players for their performance.
They went out there and they played better than us today. They made more putts. But listen, we knew this was going to be difficult. We knew this was going to be tough. We didn’t expect to come in here and this not be a difficult week. Our boys are in great spirits. I just spoke to them. They are really excited to get out there tomorrow.

Team Europe are the defending champions, having won the event in 2023 in convincing fashion. They need 8.5 points more from the remaining 2 days to retain the cup and claim their first win on American soil since 2012.
