‘Devastated’ Aces star Kelsey Plum, Giants TE Darren Waller file for joint divorce after 1 year of marriage

Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller have announced their decision to end their marriage and part ways after just a year of marriage. The guard for the Las Vegas Aces initially met in 2022 and dated for a year before deciding to tie the knot in March of last year. Since then, they were the role model for couples wherein both the husband and wife are professional athletes.

Darren Waller plays for the New York Giants, he made the Pro Bowl in 2020. Kelsey Plum has had a successful WNBA career, she came into the league with high hopes and unsurprisingly was the first pick of her draft class. She has since then gone on to win two championships with the Las Vegas Aces.

TMZ reports that the couple will not be getting into any legal battles concerning assets, debts, or alimony. They have filed a joint petition and have mentioned the agreed-upon manner in which the assets are to be distributed and debts if any to be disposed of.

Kelsey Plum will not receive alimony from Darren Waller

The WNBA star has agreed to end their relationship on peaceful terms. Waller will not be giving any form of spousal support to Plum and vice versa. After the news was made public, Kelsey Plum revealed that she was “devastated” by the unexpected split.

Kelsey Plum said in a statement

From this statement, it seems like Plum was not the one who initiated the divorce. Waller may have been the one to first suggest a split in their marriage. While the exact reason remains under wraps for now, the truth could surface in the future.

Maybe their split could have been predictable, especially after Waller shared a TikTok video that addressed the subject of heartbreak. At the time, fans did not think much but it could indicate that he has had these thoughts for quite sometime on his mind now. The divorce comes just 2 weeks before the commencement of the 2024 WNBA season.
