Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick said he’s extremely disappointed with how MLB handled the doubleheader situation. He stated how his team had to sit out and watch their playoff hope crumble before even competing.

Only two wild-card spots remained for the playoffs among the three teams – Diamondbacks, New York Mets, and Atlanta Braves. In the Mets-Brave’s recent faceoff, both teams won each game and secured their playoff berth, leaving Diamondbacks in the shadows.

This did not sit well with Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick who went on a rant on “Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo”, talking about the other options the MLB could have given if taken a different approach. He spoke about how none of those teams could’ve played two games last Monday or Tuesday to avoid scheduling games after the regular season.

I predicted a week ago, when this debacle — at multiple levels — was occurring to have the season end with two games yet to be played on a Monday before the playoffs start, it was ill-advised. I’m disappointed that MLB didn’t take a more aggressive posture to insist on those games being played earlier.

He further added how MLB could have taken a precautionary approach before as last week’s Mets-Braves game got canceled due to Hurricane Helene. According to reports, the heavy rainfall was hardly any surprise as the weather forecast had already been given in advance.

Fans react as Mets-Braves celebrate playoff berth win together on-field

With both teams clinching playoff berths, there were bound to be wild celebrations. However, one thing that was vastly different from anyone’s expectation was both divisional rivals sharing the same field to celebrate and congratulate each other.

After having enough champagne showers in their respective locker room, both teams took the field to hug and congratulate each other. They were all smiles for photos, but many did not take the celebration lightly. Several fans pointed out their frustration seeing rivals being friends over playoff berth, while there were few who supported their comradeship. Check some reactions below:

The regular seasons are now over and the playoffs are set to begin. The October games which all teams have been waiting for will finally begin. The New York Mets are scheduled to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild-card round, while the Atlanta Braves will play against the San Diego Padres.
