“I’m retiring from voting!” Kendrick Perkins REGRETS voting for Rudy Gobert as DPOY after horrible show in playoffs

Kendrick Perkins regrets voting for Rudy Gobert as Defensive Player of the Year for his horrible performances in the playoffs

Since retiring from the NBA, Kendrick Perkins has grown into a prominent figure as a broadcaster. So much so that ESPN has him giving important takes on anything basketball-related. That has earned the former champion a vote. But the big man now claims to have regrets after voting for Rudy Gobert as Defensive Player of the Year.

As a guest on First Take, host Molly Qerim asked Perkins his thoughts about who should take the majority of the blame for the 0-3 record the Minnesota Timberwolves are in.

I'm retiring from voting. Me voting this season for Rudy Gobert is an embarrassment for me, for Defensive Player of the Year. He's the first player that we see every single time, in the postseason that becomes a defensive liability. He's not respected by his peers, we saw what happened to him in the Denver series. He couldn't even guard the person at his position. When you look at this series right now, do you understand, do we realize that Rudy has three blocks in three games? He's averaging one block per game at 7-foot-3. Unacceptable to say he's a four-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Kendrick Perkins replied

Kendrick Perkins was livid when suggesting that the other players on the Timberwolves at least try to put in their best. But Gobert is the one who has seen a significant drop-in play compared to the regular season.

To put it in perspective, Perkins may not be wrong. Rudy Gobert averaged 2.1 blocks per game during the regular season. But in the playoffs that number has dropped to 1.1. His inability to help his teammates on the perimeter has also been detrimental.

Kendrick Perkins goes after Karl Anthony-Towns as well

Perkins believes Gobert’s deficiencies have put the load on his teammates which indirectly has led to the fatigue issue that has been a constant hindrance for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

However, the former big man did not leave out Gobert’s partner in the paint. The ESPN analyst could not stop himself from talking about the woeful shot selection from Karl Anthony-Towns either.

Karl Anthony-Towns who I thought was the most important player in this series. If you are, then you should be making love to the paint. He actually needs to go to the pharmacy to get some medicine, because he's got an allergic reaction to the paint. I just don't get it. He's shooting these damn threes. Anthony Edwards is not getting any help from All-Star Karl Anthony-Towns.
Kendrick Perkins said

Perkins was livid as Karl Anthony-Towns has not provided any help to his teammates on the scoring front. Therefore, even that has turned into a liability.

Anthony-Towns has not only been struggling to score points from the three, but he has also not attacked the paint to generate offense. Therefore, the Dallas Mavericks have taken advantage of that by not clogging the paint. They have put their defenders on the perimeter as they are not worried about interior production.

Perkins wants the two bigs of the Minnesota Timberwolves to play better if they want to be the first team to come back from being down 0-3 in the playoffs. With the way they are playing, it is a monumental task.
