Kenny Omega returned to the latest episode of AEW Dynamite and shared some deeply personal news about his health. He disclosed that he considers himself fortunate just to be standing there talking with them, recounting how doctors had given him a mere 24 hours to live. The Cleaner is currently out of action due to diverticulitis.
The ending portion of Dynamite saw Kenny Omega come out to address his situation. He stated that although he wasn’t comfortable talking about his injuries, he admitted that he was scared for his future, fearing that he might not be able to wrestle ever again. Much to the delight of fans, he assured them that he would eventually make his return.
The 40-year-old star then shifted his focus to The Young Bucks, who replaced him with Kazuchika Okada on the March 7th episode of Dynamite. He stated that, as an EVP, he had the same amount of power as them. However, before he could say anything more, Okada and The Elite launched a vicious attack on him.
Spending ten days in the hospital, the doctors told me, 'Kenny, you're one of the lucky ones. You were 24 hours away from dying. To that, I said, 'Cool story doc! can you patch me up and send me back to Dynamite?'Kenny Omega on AEW Dynamite
During his recovery phase, the Belt Collector has been passing the time by playing video games on his Twitch channel. Recently, he took a stand for Roman Reigns against a fan who called him boring. Although the wrestling world is enjoying Omega being healthy, they would want to see him perform some unbelievable stuff in the ring soon.
Kenny Omega revealed he would not participate in any death matches anymore
Kenny Omega decided to go through a major change in his in-ring career due to a life-threatening illness. He explained in his Twitch stream why he had to refrain from performing in a Death Match anymore.
A fan asked him for his opinion on a recent 30-minute Texas Death Match between Swerve Strickland and Adam Page at Full Gear 2023. The Best Bout Machine explained why they could perform in these dangerous matches and not him. He stated that AEW now had more guys who could do more outrageous stuff than him.
When I saw that I thought, 'Oh, thank goodness someone is doing this type of stuff to this degree,' because I can never reach these heights, I can never be this extreme, I'm never going to drink anyone's blood. You guys… that's your thing now, you can have it, it was kind of a liberating feeling like, 'OK, Death Match Kenny is done because we've got guys who are way crazier than me out there.Kenny Omega via his Twitch stream (H/T : WrestlingInc)
Omega himself is no stranger to Death Matches, as he wrestled Jon Moxley in an infamous Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match at Revolution 2021. Both wrestlers crossed all the boundaries of sanity, but The Cleaner emerged victorious. He may have to potentially tone down the risks he takes in his matches after recovering from the serious illness.
