Kenny Pickett, who is shining bright in the Philadelphia Eagles’ OTAs, has indeed entered a new phase of his NFL career. The quarterback is even performing better than the franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts in the ongoing team activities, but more than that, he’s enjoying the chemistry he’s building with the Eagles’ offense.
Pickett’s departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers was the result of the same transaction that brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson potentially for the starting QB position. Although he was traded to the Eagles as a backup after leading two seasons as a starter, he viewed it from an optimistic point of view and even applauded the transition from Steelers to Philly.
It’s been great--The communication back and forth in the quarterback room has been awesome with the quarterbacks coaching us and Kellen [Moore]. I couldn’t ask for a better room, better staff to be working with. Obviously, the talent around this team is pretty special, so it’s a great group to be in.Kenny Pickett said while talking to NBC Sports in Philadelphia
Pickett also mentioned the Pro Bowler Hurts as an “incredibly talented” player, who is also been playing in the old system just like Pickett. Together, the two are learning the new system and aiming for utter dominance in the 2024 regular season.
Kenny Pickett seeks new beginnings as Eagles backup
As Pittsburgh drafted Pickett in the first-round pick of the 2022 NFL draft, he had been under the spotlight since Day 1. Football fans were expecting him to play to the caliber of the Hall of Fame as former quarterbacks did. But the intense pressure only made the quarterback overwhelmed and his performance got questioned.
That’s why when the Steelers signed Wilson, Pickett didn’t handle it well and requested for a trade.

When the trade finally happened, Pickett was looking forward to the fresh start despite the fact it was for a backup position. Meanwhile, the Steelers signed Justin Fields as the backup to replace Pickett.
