The Philadelphia Eagles traded in Kenny Pickett for the backup quarterback position for their franchise starter Jalen Hurts as they aim for a bounce back in the upcoming season. However, it turns out Pickett is giving tough competition to Hurts– starting with the OTAs.
As All Eagles’ Ed Kracz reported, the former Pittsburgh Steelers QB has outperformed Hurts during the Eagles’ organized team activities this week, showcasing his accuracy while playing at quarterback No. 2. Even though there’s hardly any chance for Pickett to be chosen above the Pro Bowler for the starting position, his improvement is sure notable. Kracz praised Pickett for being “sharp, sharper than Jalen Hurts.”
Hurts was on the money on his first two seven-on-seven throws, hitting A.J. Brown on a quick inside slant then following up with a nice sideline throw about 15 yards downfield. Pickett, though, was consistently on target. The Eagles can win games with him if something happens to Hurts.Ed Kracz wrote
With that being said, this gives Pickett a shining opportunity to rebuild his name as it was during his first-round draft selection. So if not Philly, he could become a starter for any other team that recognizes his potential.
George Pickens’ candid take on how Kenny Pickett influence his game
As Pickett started a new chapter of his career with the Eagles, his departure from the Steelers ended on a rough note. It began with them signing Russell Wilson, which resulted in Pickett requesting a trade and making space for the Steelers to sign Justin Fields.
While the playing style between Pickett and Wilson is being compared, star wide receiver George Pickens gave a brutal assessment of how the former used to play that even affected the receiver’s playing style.
I can only go off of how the quarterback plays. I can thrive more. The yardage showed it. I should have made the Pro Bowl.said George Pickens, during an interview this week
Pickens stated that his performance depends on the quarterback’s play and with Pickett in the lead, he used to feel the QB’s performance was holding him back.
